Progressive vs USAA: Who has better car insurance?
Both companies offer unique ways to save, but USAA stands out for highly rated customer support.
Insurance giant Progressive offers discounts through its unique program called Snapshot, which allows customers to pay based on how well and how much they drive instead of just traditional factors. And the company gets an A+ from the Better Business Bureau.
Founded in 1922, USAA serves members of the military and their families by offering competitive rates on car insurance and many other financial products. Like Progressive, USAA receives an A+ from the BBB, and it is one of the highest ranking companies in customer satisfaction year after year.
USAA’s highly rated customer support and cheap rates make it the best pick for military-affiliated drivers, but Progressive is still a great option if you don’t qualify for USAA.

Bottom line
If you’ve served in the military or are currently serving, or if you qualify through a family member, USAA is by far the clear winner. With a 5 out of 5 rating from J.D. Power and an A+ from the BBB, its customer service can’t be beat. And its many discounts make car insurance affordable. But if you don’t qualify for insurance through USAA, Progressive is a solid choice.
