Our verdict

If you already hold a Barclays current account and you have a lot of gadgets in your household, paying £17.50 a month for Barclays’ Tech Pack might seem worth it - particularly if your family is prone to damaging their devices or travels regularly.

However, forking out £210 a year isn’t cheap. So before signing up, it’s sensible to compare the fee to the cost of buying standalone cover for all your devices as this may work out to be more cost-effective. Some standalone policies may also cover gadgets against loss, which the Tech Pack does not.

Alternatively, it could be worth comparing packaged bank accounts as some of these have similar, if not lower, monthly fees and come with gadget insurance as well as a range of other perks, such as travel insurance.

Pros

  • Easy to add to your existing Barclays current account
  • Covers up to 4 phones and unlimited gadgets
  • Worldwide cover against theft, damage and breakdown
  • Make a claim in the app 24/7
  • Accounts are FSCS protected

Cons

  • Monthly fee is fairly high
  • Could work out cheaper to buy standalone cover
  • Gadgets are not protected against loss
  • You must sign up for at least 6 months
