Toyota Yaris insurance groups

Vehicles in the UK are categorised into insurance groups, ranging from 1 (the cheapest) to 50 (the most expensive), which partly determine the cost of your premium.

Toyota Yaris models range from insurance group 2 to group 36. This means the cost of insurance can vary significantly between various Toyota Yaris models, from the more affordable end of the spectrum to the pricier end of the range. For example, a 30-year-old driver in an average postcode could pay:

As we’ve already established, it depends on the model. One factor affecting insurance groups is engine size. In general, the bigger the engine, the higher the cost of your insurance, because these engines are more expensive to repair or replace. For example, it may cost £553 to insure the 1.0-litre Toyota Yaris 1.0 VVT-i Icon TSS 5d, while you may pay £537 for the 1.4-litre Toyota Yaris 1.4 D-4D Icon TSS 5d.

Finally, the safer your car is, the less of a risk it will be for companies to insure, and therefore the lower your premium is likely to be.

How safe is a Toyota Yaris?

When tested by Euro NCAP in 2020, the Toyota Yaris was awarded 5/5 for safety. It scored well on both adult and child occupant safety, being awarded 86% and 81% respectively. It also earned a score of 85% for its safety assist.

As standard, the Yaris comes with some great safety measures, including AEB City and AEB Inter-urban, which monitor the distance between your car and an obstacle in front, and can either brake autonomously or assist your braking in an emergency, to help you to avoid rear-ending and low speed collisions. The Yaris also comes with a Lane Assist system, to help you keep in your lane and prevent drifting.

It might be worth getting on the phone with your insurance provider and negotiating lower premiums for increased safety features, such as a speed assistance system to help you keep to the legal speed limit.
