- Exchange rates. Another way money transfer providers make money is to add a margin to the mid-market GBP/SDG exchange rate.

How to choose the best money transfer companies to send money to Sudan
Although we currently have any active deals to help you transfer money to Sudan from the United Kingdom, below we cover the most features to consider when researching providers.
- Exchange rates. Banks and transfer services use the mid-market rate to trade with one another. It is the best rate you can get. However, not all money transfer providers offer you this mid-market rate so compare the SDG you're offered to the mid-market rate and look for the smallest difference.
- Transfer fees. Are you being charged a flat fee or a percentage of your transfer amount? For example, a provider offering to transfer your money to Sudan for a flat or low fee might work out better if you plan to send a large amount.
- Transfer type. Does your recipient have a Sudanese bank account or is cash or cell phone top-up a better option? Each transfer type will have different fees. For example, instant cash pickups tend to be more expensive than bank transfers.
- Transfer speed. If you need your transfer to arrive quickly, you can pay for an express delivery. Some companies offer instant cash pickups but may charge more. If you're not in a rush, online money transfer services offer the best value and get your money to Sudan faster and cheaper than banks.
- Transfer limits. Find out how much you can send with each service.
- Discounts. Some providers may offer you a free transfer simply for signing up. Others may offer a discount if you transfer more than a specific amount of Sudanese pounds.

Ask an Expert
Hi, Please help. Is it true that a Sudanese national can transfer foreign exchange to Sudan (I think via the Central Bank of Sudan) and receive a much more favourable exchange rate? I read an article in Reuters suggesting CBOS had offered this incentive late last year (wanting to boost its foreign currency reserves) but I can’t find anything on their web site or elsewhere to confirm nor instructions on how it can be done. All help gratefully received. Many thanks.
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your inquiry
There are two options for sending money in Sudan.
Banks. Find out if your bank lets you transfer funds to a Sudanese bank account. If it does, you may be able to initiate the process by visiting a branch, through online banking or over the phone. If you account comes with a chequebook, you can write a cheque and send it via mail. Purchasing a money order from your bank and mailing it is also an option.
Non-banks. You can use the services of a money transfer company such as Western Union to send money to Sudan from Australia. You can also send money via PayPal, provided both you and the recipient have PayPal accounts. Opening a PayPal account when in Sudan may not be easy.
I would suggest trying out one of these options to transfer money.
Hope this information helps
Cheers,
Arnold
