This supermini was first produced by Fiat in 1993, and was created to replace the Fiat Uno. Now in its third generation, the Fiat Punto is still popular amongst drivers, and whilst it is not thought of as one of Britain’s favourite cars, you’d be surprised with how many you see on UK roads.

We wanted to provide you with an idea of how much it could cost you to insure your Fiat Punto, so we ran several quotes in order to find an average figure. Our results estimated that, on average, you could insure your Fiat Punto with comprehensive cover for £55.56 a month, or a single, annual cost of £606.21. How can I save on my Fiat Punto premiums?

How to save on your premiums is a question that many drivers ask themselves at one point or another, so we’ve worked hard to provide you with some answers! We’ve devised a list of tips and tricks to help you save money on your premiums:

• Pay annually rather than monthly. By paying annually, you could save an average of £60.51 a year!
• Make yourself a secure investment. By presenting yourself as reliable, you may be rewarded by your provider with lower premiums. You can do this by maintaining a clean history of no claims and a good credit rating.
• Be economical about your car usage. Opting to get the bus to work or walking to the shops can inturn save you money on your premiums by keeping your mileage low.
• Don’t just accept your renewal quote. When it’s time for renewal, shop around and compare quotes – don’t just accept the quote that you are given!
• Install extra safety precautions. Providers don’t like to insure risks, so by investing in extra safety measures, you are more likely to save some money on your premiums.
• Avoid driving convictions. Driving convictions, or any convictions for that matter, will hike up your premiums, so they are best to be avoided.

• The current Punto comes with an option of 12 different engines, four of which are diesel and two are BiPower engines.
• In 2016, around 220,000 Fiat Puntos were bought and registered in the UK.

How safe is Fiat Punto?

Unfortunately, the Fiat Punto is apparently not very safe. When tested by Euro NCAP in 2017, the Fiat Punto became the first car ever to achieve a 0/5 safety rating. Whilst it scored an average 51% for adult occupant safety and a mediocre 43% for child occupant safety, it was in fact its score of 0% for safety assist that concreted the Punto’s rating.

The overall rating of the Punto is, obviously, a concern. As standard, the Punto comes with surprisingly little in the way of safety features, with even some airbags considered optional. Front airbags are included as standard, but any other airbag, such as a side, chest or pelvis bag, are considered optional, and it is worth noting that there are no airbags in the rear seats.

Even basic safety features like seat belt reminders are somewhat omitted – there is only a seat belt reminder for the driver, whilst the passenger seat belt reminder is considered an optional feature, and there is no seat belt reminder for the rear seats.

It is worth remembering, the safer your car is the lower your premiums, so get on the phone to your insurer and ask what safety features you can add in return for lower premiums.
