Starling is the original digital challenger bank which shook up the industry. Formed in 2014 by founder Anne Boden, Starling has developed a reputation as one of the most ethical banks around, from using recycled debit cards to turning down investments based on moral direction. You can’t visit a Starling branch, though, as they don’t exist. Everything’s done online and through the app.

Is Starling currently running a switching offer?

There is no switching offer at Starling at the moment, but there is a modest referral scheme.

When you successfully get a friend or family member to sign up, you’ll get a National Trust day pass. You can use it to visit World Heritage sites, parks, castles and more across the UK.

Here’s how to claim your National Trust day pass:

• In the Starling app, go to your profile and select ‘Refer a friend’
• Tap ‘Share referral link’
• Send it to your friend or family member
• Once their account is approved, you’ll each receive a free National Trust day pass

What switching offers have been available in the past?

October 2020-March 2023

Starling may not have branches, but it has plenty of trees thanks to its involvement in the Trillion Trees scheme.

Launched in October 2020, a previous refer-a-friend scheme at Starling saw a new tree planted for every successful referral. Told you Starling was all about the ethics.
By the time the scheme finished in early 2023, Starling had proudly funded 100,000 new trees being planted.

When might the bank launch a new switching offer?

There is currently no sign of a new bank switching offer from Starling. To add to this, the bank doesn’t have a history of offering cash incentives for those of you moving to Starling from another bank.
