If you’d like to travel with a bit of class, but believed airport lounges are only for the rich and famous – think again. With the lounge membership programme Priority Pass, you could be part of the exclusive Priority Pass club and enjoy independent airport lounge access worldwide.

As a member, you can access over 1,400 lounges across 500 cities in 140 countries. Within the UK, there are 46 lounges in 28 airports across 23 cities. As a Priority Pass member, you can enjoy the comfort of relaxing in independent and some airline lounges simply by flashing your card. You can also take advantage of up to 800 dining, spa and retail discounts when you travel.

Most Priority Pass lounges offer drinks and snacks, free Wi-Fi, and somewhere to charge your devices, while some offer showers, spa treatments and hot meals.

Annual membership fees start from as little as £69, so with your Black Friday discount, you could really be flying in style without the big price tag.

What membership options does Priority Pass offer?

Priority Pass has three different membership levels:

• Standard membership is a £69 annual fee plus £24 each time you enter a lounge.
• Standard plus membership costs £229 a year. This gives you 10 free lounge visits during your membership year. Any subsequent visits are charged at £24 per visit.
• Prestige membership costs £419 a year. This offers unlimited lounge visits during your membership year. Given that it costs significantly more than Standard Plus, you’d want to be confident of making a decent number of lounge visits over the year before signing up for this option.

You can bring guests with you in the lounge, but it’ll cost £24 each, no matter which membership tier you have. Unlike with some airlines’ loyalty schemes, there is usually no limit to the number of people you can take with you in the lounge. Should you get Priority Pass membership?

There are many different ways of getting lounge access and turn an airport in a fairly pleasant place to wait a couple of hours in, so consider the following factors before making a decision:

• How often you travel. Or, more specifically, how often you require lounge access. Some lounges allow you to access by paying one-off, which may be a cheaper solution if you only need it once or twice a year.
• Which airlines you normally use. If you always travel with the same airline, joining its frequent flyer scheme is probably a smart move. You’ll earn air miles that you can turn into free flights and upgrades. Plus, most airlines have their own set of lounges, that you can normally access if you join the airline’s loyalty scheme – at which point you won’t need Priority Pass. However, it may still be worth it if you travel with low-cost airlines that don’t do lounges, like Ryanair or Easyjet.
• Which airports you fly from and to. Priority Pass is a solid lounge scheme, but it may not cover all the airports you need. Make sure you check before getting a membership.
• In which class you travel. If you travel first or business class, you’ll usually get lounge access included in your ticket, so again, no need for Priority Pass.
• Should you get a travel credit card instead? A few personal and business credit cards come with airport lounge access. They usually have fairly expensive annual fees or require high incomes to qualify for them, but also tend to come with a wide range of travel-related benefits, so it may be worth checking them out on our dedicated page.
