How does cashback work?

Cashback credit cards offer you the opportunity to earn cashback when you use your card on eligible purchases.

Depending on your card’s terms, you can earn a percentage of cashback on the amount you have spent. As long as you follow the golden rule and you don’t go over your credit limit and you repay your debts in full each month, you should be able to earn the full cashback amount.

Pros and cons of a cashback credit card

  • Earn money for spending money.
  • Earn pounds instead of points.
  • Get extra features, such as complimentary travel insurance, rewards programmes and concierge services.

  • Most cashback cards charge annual fees.
  • They often come with higher rates of interest.
  • Earning cap – make sure you take a deep dive into the T&Cs.
  • The rewards are designed to encourage spending, which can lead to some people biting off more than they can chew.

We show offers we can track - that's not every product on the market...yet. Unless we've said otherwise, products are in no particular order. The terms "best", "top", "cheap" (and variations of these) aren't ratings, though we always explain what's great about a product when we highlight it. This is subject to our terms of use. When you make major financial decisions, consider getting independent financial advice. Always consider your own circumstances when you compare products so you get what's right for you. Most of the data in Finder's comparison tables has the source: Moneyfacts Group PLC. In other cases, Finder has sourced data directly from providers.
