Best Dividend ETFs in 2026

Four funds for different goals — overall quality, growth, high yield and monthly income — plus why "weekly" dividend ETFs aren't what they sound like.

Search “best weekly dividend ETF” and you’ll find funds advertising yields well above 100% a year. Those aren’t dividend funds in any normal sense — they’re options-income strategies that can pay out your own capital back to you, labeled as a distribution.(1) That gap between what a fund advertises and what it actually does is exactly why picking a dividend ETF is worth doing carefully.

Here are four dividend ETFs that cover the most common reasons investors reach for dividend stocks: overall quality, consistent growth, high current yield and monthly income, followed by an honest look at the weekly-payer category and why it doesn’t get a pick here.

How we picked these dividend ETFs

Each fund leads a distinct, genuine category rather than competing head-to-head with the others. We favored large, low-cost, well-established funds with transparent index methodologies over funds with higher advertised yields but opaque or unsustainable payout structures. Expense ratios, index rules and fund data all come directly from each issuer’s own fund page or the underlying index provider’s methodology documents.

1. Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) — best overall

SCHD tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index, which screens for companies with at least 10 consecutive years of dividend payments, then ranks them on cash flow to debt, return on equity, dividend yield and dividend growth.(2) That combination of quality and yield screens is why it’s become the most widely held dividend ETF by assets. It’s also cheap: a 0.06% expense ratio on roughly $111.6 billion in assets, paying out 3.21% on a quarterly schedule.(3)

Because of those quality screens, SCHD leans away from high-yield sectors like REITs and utilities. It won’t hand you the biggest check today — it’s built to hold up over time instead.

2. Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG) — best for dividend growth

VIG tracks the S&P U.S. Dividend Growers Index, which requires a track record of consistently rising dividends rather than just a high current one.(4) It’s one of the cheapest options here, at a 0.04% expense ratio, and one of the largest, with about $109.1 billion in assets. If you want a stricter bar, the ProShares S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats ETF (NOBL) only accepts companies with at least 25 straight years of dividend increases — though that narrower screen comes with a higher cost — 0.35% — and a fraction of the assets — about $11.2 billion.(5)

The tradeoff with any growth-focused fund is yield: these funds typically pay less today than a high-yield fund would, since they’re prioritizing the track record over the size of the check.

3. Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM) — best for high yield

VYM tracks the FTSE High Dividend Yield Index, casting a wide net across US companies that pay above-average dividends. At a 0.04% expense ratio and roughly $78.9 billion in assets, it’s one of the cheapest and largest ways to get that broad exposure, paying a 2.35% 30-day SEC yield as of October 2026.(6)

Because VYM screens on yield rather than financial quality, it can end up more concentrated in sectors like financials and healthcare, and a high yield can sometimes signal a struggling stock rather than a generous one. For a middle ground, iShares Core High Dividend ETF (HDV) adds a quality screen on top of yield. It tracks the Morningstar Dividend Yield Focus Index, charges 0.08% and holds about $15.1 billion in assets — pricier and smaller than VYM, but with a higher 3.51% 30-day SEC yield that sits between SCHD and VYM on both yield and screening strictness.(7)

4. Invesco S&P 500 High Dividend Low Volatility ETF (SPHD) — best for monthly income

SPHD tracks the S&P 500 Low Volatility High Dividend Index: start with the 75 highest-yielding stocks in the S&P 500, then keep only the 50 with the lowest volatility. The result pays monthly instead of quarterly, with a dividend yield around 4.6%, a 0.30% expense ratio and about $3.4 billion in assets.(8)

That narrower strategy is also why SPHD costs more and manages less than the broader funds on this list — you’re paying extra for the monthly schedule and the low-volatility screen.

What about weekly dividend ETFs?

Funds advertising weekly distributions, like Roundhill’s XDTE, generally aren’t buying dividend-paying stocks at all. XDTE instead holds S&P 500 options positions and sells short-dated call options each day to generate income, charging a 0.97% expense ratio.(1) Its own fund documents state that distributions aren’t guaranteed to continue at any particular level, and recent payouts have consisted entirely of return of capital rather than investment income or gains.(1)

Some single-stock versions of this strategy advertise yields well above 100% a year. That headline yield isn’t sustainable income in the way a dividend is — it’s a byproduct of selling options against a volatile stock, and it comes with capped upside and real downside risk if that stock falls. None of that makes these funds get a “best pick” here: they’re a fundamentally different product than a dividend ETF, not just a faster-paying version of one.

What is the Finder Score?

The Finder Score crunches 147 key metrics we collected directly from 18+ brokers and assessed each provider’s performance based on eight different categories, weighing each metric based on the expertise and insights of Finder’s investment experts. We then scored and ranked each provider to determine the best brokerage accounts.

Bottom line

The right dividend ETF depends on what you’re actually optimizing for: overall quality, a long growth track record, the highest current yield or a monthly paycheck. Be especially skeptical of anything advertising an outsized “yield” paid weekly — in dividend investing, an unusually high headline number is more often a warning sign than a bonus. For more on how bonds compare as a source of portfolio income, see our guide to what bonds are, or compare brokerage accounts if you’re ready to invest.
