7 cash advance apps that work with Chime

Many cash advance apps don’t work with this online bank — but here are seven that do.

Chime users have had trouble using cash advance apps like Brigit and FloatMe because of connectivity issues. Thankfully, with those issues now resolved, there are even more cash advance, installment loan and payday loan apps that work with this fintech company.

The 7 best apps that work with Chime

If you already have a Chime® Checking Account, your easiest cash advance option is to use SpotMe through the Chime app.

To explore other options, here are the best seven other cash advance apps that work with Chime:

  • Best for employees: Earnin
  • Best for frequent advances: Cleo
  • Best for flexible repayment: Brigit
  • Best for all-in-one app: Albert
  • Best for staying on budget: Dave
  • Best for free instant delivery: Empower
  • Best for a full banking experience: MoneyLion

Best for employees: Earnin

Go to site

EarnIn's Cash Out feature lets you borrow up to $750 of your earned wages before payday, and unlike other apps, like DailyPay or PayActiv – doesn't require employer participation.

Right now, Earnin to Chime transfers are supported for select Chime users. To see if you qualify, check your bank selection list inside the app. If you see Chime listed, it means it's supported.

To use Earnin Cash Outs, you need to be employed, have regular direct deposits and receive a minimum of $320 per pay period. You can transfer $100 a day to a linked bank account, or more than $100 per day to an Earnin card, if eligible. Regular transfers are available in one to three business days or in minutes for a fee.

  • Available in all states
  • No credit check required
  • No mandatory fees, interest or tipping
  • Cash Out more than $100 per day with an EarnIn card

Best for frequent advances: Cleo

With its 24-hour cooling-off period between loans, Cleo allows you a new advance only one day after paying off your previous one. This is way faster than other cash advance apps that make you wait three to five days between advances.

On the downside, Cleo's cash advance limit is only $250 compared to SpotMe's up to $200 limit — and new users are approved for $20 to $100 at first.

  • Available in all states
  • New advance available 24 hours after payoff
  • One-time due date extension
  • Budgeting and saving tools through app
  • $250 advance limit is lower than SpotMe

Brigit lets you extend your due date up to three times, making it a useful option if you need flexible repayment options. Its cash advance limit is also slightly higher than SpotMe's — $250 for Brigit instead of up to $200 for SpotMe.

Standard delivery takes up to three business days. Select customers can get free rush funding in only 20 minutes, although Brigit's site isn't clear on who qualifies. The biggest downside is Brigit's fee — the app costs $8.99 a month while SpotMe is free.

  • Up to $250 in cash advances
  • Extend due date up to three times
  • Free instant delivery for select customers

Additional features that require $14.99 per month are investing and financial advice — and that monthly fee is less than other cash apps out there. Albert also gives you a debit card and free access to over 55,000 ATMs in stores like Walgreens and Target. However, a common thread in customer complaints is poor customer service.

Should I stick with Chime?

Chime offers a solid checking account with no fees, early paydays — and, most importantly, free overdraft protection that will “spot you” up to $200 until your next paycheck.

Unlike other cash advance apps that work with Chime, SpotMe is instant, which means you don’t have to request it. When the app sees that you’ve overdrawn on your account, it simply covers the balance until you get paid again.

SpotMe’s eligibility requirements are easier than other cash advance apps that work with Chime. You’re golden as long as you have an active Chime debit card and have received at least Single qualifying $200 direct deposit into Chime checking account in the last 34 days.

The biggest disadvantage with Chime is that it doesn’t play nice with other cash advance apps. If you don’t qualify for Chime or its up to $200 limit is too low, it may be worth switching to a free checking account that works with more cash advance apps.

Does the EarnIn app work with Chime?

Sort of. At the time of writing, EarnIn is allowing a small group of test users that bank with Chime to use EarnIn. Since Chime users receive their payment two days before their scheduled payday, EarnIn states it makes it difficult to support Chime users.

To find out if you’re eligible to use Chime with EarnIn, you’ll know when you’re choosing a bank during the app setup. If you choose Chime from the banking list, you’ll see a message on whether you can use Chime.

Alternatives to cash advance apps for Chime customers

Cash advance apps are best if you need small sums of money between paydays. The maximum loan amount is typically around $250. And in most cases, new users can’t borrow more than $50 at a time until they’ve used the app for several months.

If cash advance apps are too restrictive for your needs, consider alternatives that include:

  • Credit card cash advance. If you need money in a pinch, consider withdrawing cash from your credit card. You’ll pay a transaction fee and interest will be charged immediately without a grace period, but your limit could be higher than a cash advance app. Cash advances come with a high interest rate, so consider a card like the PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature® Card that offers a lower than average cash advance rate.
  • Local resources. Many cities and states support local programs to help you cover food, utilities and rent when money’s tight. Consider looking into these resources if you tend to rely on cash advance apps to get by.
  • Credit counseling. A credit counselor can help you create a plan to bring your spending back in line with your income. And in some cases, they may be able to find enough “free money” in your budget to avoid borrowing money at all.

These six cash advance apps that work with Chime aren’t your only means of getting a short-term loan when you need it. Compare other cash advance apps or payday loan alternatives before you make a final decision.
