Here are a few key things to consider before choosing which crypto ETN to invest in:
Crypto ETNs could appeal to investors who want to gain crypto exposure within a regulated framework and through familiar platforms.
Here’s an overview of the main downsides you need to think about before you start loading up on crypto ETNs:
"Some Ethereum ETNs, like 21Shares Ethereum Staking (AETH) or Bitwise Ethereum Staking (ET32), are “staking” ETNs. This means the underlying ETH is used to earn staking rewards on Ethereum’s network.
The ETN collects those rewards and reflects them in its NAV (net asset value), so you effectively earn passive ETH income without running a validator node yourself.
It’s important to note that staking ETNs can be slightly more complex and may carry additional risk related to network performance, validator slashing, or smart contract issues."
Crypto ETNs represent a major step toward bringing digital assets into the regulated UK investing landscape. With a growing range of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETNs available on the LSE, you’ll have safer, easier ways to gain exposure to crypto.
But remember, crypto’s volatility doesn’t vanish just because it’s wrapped in regulation. Understand what you’re buying, keep allocations small, and always check the issuer’s reputation before investing.
*Cryptocurrencies aren't regulated in the UK and there's no protection from the Financial Ombudsman or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Your capital is at risk. Capital gains tax on profits may apply.
Cryptocurrencies are speculative and investing in them involves significant risks - they're highly volatile, vulnerable to hacking and sensitive to secondary activity.
