Who is BT Broadband?

BT Broadband is a broadband service offered by BT Consumer; a division of BT Group in the UK. BT is also what’s known as a “quad-play” provider, offering mobile, Internet, TV and landline services. For the perfect entertainment-building package, BT also partners with Netflix. Win.

Did you know?

When shopping around for broadband deals, it’s easy to be drawn in by an eye-catching “£9.99 a month” deal. What these deals might be failing to mention is something called “line rental”.

Broadband generally needs a phone line to connect to the Internet. BT owns the country’s phone line network and charges other providers to use the lines. This cost is passed on to the customers and is called “line rental”.

What is BT good and bad at?

  • Huge variety of plans. BT has plans across every type of connection for nearly every address in the UK.
  • Great add-ons. As you can see above, the additional services offered by BT on most packages are very useful. Make sure you use them to their fullest if you decide to join BT as a customer.
  • Poor customer service. The sprawling services and products offered by BT can make it very difficult to deal with when something goes wrong. From our experience, it is better to contact its customer services through an online chat than over the phone.
  • High call-out fees. BT’s packages can be cheap, but when you start factoring in add-ons and customisations to your plan, things can get expensive. This is especially the case if you have to incur any call-out fees for engineers to come to your property (this cost is £129.99!).
