There are currently 129,398 Ambow Education Holding shares held short by investors – that's known as Ambow Education Holding's "short interest". This figure is 18.5% up from 109,213 last month.
There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting Ambow Education Holding shares can be evaluated.
Ambow Education Holding's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of Ambow Education Holding shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of Ambow Education Holding shares traded daily (recently around 462135.71428571). Ambow Education Holding's SIR currently stands at 0.28. In other words for every 100,000 Ambow Education Holding shares traded daily on the market, roughly 280 shares are currently held short.
However Ambow Education Holding's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of Ambow Education Holding shares, or, against the total number of tradable Ambow Education Holding shares (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case Ambow Education Holding's short interest could be expressed as 0.01% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 Ambow Education Holding shares in existence, roughly 10 shares are currently held short) or 0% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable Ambow Education Holding shares, roughly 0 shares are currently held short).
Such a low SIR usually points to an optimistic outlook for the share price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against Ambow Education Holding.

We're not expecting Ambow Education Holding to pay a dividend over the next 12 months.
Ambow Education Holding's shares were split on a 1:30 basis on 4 September 2015. So if you had owned 30 shares the day before before the split, the next day you'd have owned 1 share. This wouldn't directly have changed the overall worth of your Ambow Education Holding shares – just the quantity. However, indirectly, the new 2900% higher share price could have impacted the market appetite for Ambow Education Holding shares which in turn could have impacted Ambow Education Holding's share price.
Over the last 12 months, Ambow Education Holding's shares have ranged in value from as little as $1.1 up to $5.35. A popular way to gauge a stock's volatility is its "beta".
Beta is a measure of a share's volatility in relation to the market. The market (NYSE MKT average) beta is 1, while Ambow Education Holding's is -16.3447. This would suggest that Ambow Education Holding's shares have been inversely-correlated to the average (for this exchange) – so when the broader market trended up or down, Ambow Education Holding has bucked the trend.
