Our verdict

The Slate returns with a few new features aimed at reducing interest.

The Chase Slate Edge℠ is Chase’s refresh of the original Chase Slate and offers a few new tweaks to the old card’s features. It requires no annual fee and a 0% intro APR on balance transfers and purchases for 18 months — reverting to 20.49% to 29.24% variable.

Chase has, wisely, improved the card's intro APR length to 18 months. This is a big improvement from the 12-months the card relaunched with and is even better than the card's old offer of 15-months. The card still lacks the 0% balance transfer fee offer, but this is much less a sore spot now that the card's intro period is more respectable.

While the card’s interest and credit limit features are interesting, they’re not quite strong enough to make the card a better long-term choice than a rewards card. If you want a 0% interest card and prefer sticking with Chase, this card can suit your needs. But if you’re looking for a longer intro APR period or stronger value from your card over time, there are better options on the market.

Pros

  • Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers. Enjoy a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 18 months, reverting to 20.49% to 29.24% variable.
  • No annual fee. You won't pay an annual fee to use this card.

Cons

  • Intro offer on balance transfer fees gone. The original Chase Slate offered a 0% balance transfer fee offer for 60 days. This is no longer the case, as the Chase Slate Edge℠ offers a 60 days period of $5 balance transfer fees, reverting to 3%.

Chase Slate Edge℠ customer reviews and complaints

The original Chase Slate card was respected for its intro APR period, with cardholders on social media such as reddit noting the card loses much of its value after that intro period. We’ll see if the new additions to the card’s APR structure give the card some of that long-term value.

Chase receives an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and is not accredited with the company as of June 2022. Customer reviews on the site complain of poor customer service.

The provider receives a 1.7 rating out of 5 on Trustpilot based on more than 130 consumer reviews, many of which note poor customer service.

Bottom line

After a somewhat unimpressive reemergence, the Chase Slate Edge℠ has stepped its game up by bumping its intro APR period to a more respectable 18 months from the prior 12 month period. The loss of a 0% balance transfer fee still stings a bit, but the value of the card is solid if you’re looking for a simple balance transfer option from Chase. For those looking for a longer intro period or rewards, there are stronger intro APR credit cards on the market.

I am looking for a 15-21 month 0 % credit card with 0 balance transfer fees to consolidate my relatives debt.

I would want between 10k – 15k. I would be the card holder guarantee payment. My credit card score is around 800.

No annual fee as well. Which companies should I consider that allow transfer from one person to me?

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your question.

You may want to compare credit cards that allow for balance transfer between two people’s names.

Just click on the bank logo to check your card options issued by a particular bank.

Cheers,

Anndy
