Our verdict

You’ll never pay an overdraft fee, but you can’t write checks.

First National Bank eStyle account has very few features, but it also has an easily avoidable monthly maintenance fee. And you also won’t get penalized for overdrawing your account.

But besides these two benefits, there’s nothing else that makes this account stand out. Its network of 800 ATMs is lower than what you’ll find at most banks and you’ll pay a $2.95 fee when you use an out-of-network ATM.

If you want an account with more features look at rewards checking accounts like One Cash, which is a free digital rewards checking account that earns up to 5.00% APY when you set up direct deposit. Plus, it gives you access to your paycheck up to two days early, and lets you send checks right from the app.

Pros

  • No monthly fee.
  • No overdraft fees.
  • FDIC insured.

Cons

  • No check writing.
  • Limited footprint.
  • Only 800+ ATMs.

2 benefits of First National Bank eStyle checking account

This account comes with online bill pay and CardGuard, which are features common to all First National Bank checking accounts. It also offers these benefits.

  • Easily avoidable fee. There’s a $5 monthly fee for this account, but you can avoid it by making one deposit or five purchases each statement cycle.
  • No overdraft fees. First National Bank declines or returns transactions that exceed your balance, so you’ll never face an overdraft fee.

3 potential drawbacks to look out for

First National Bank eStyle accounts have a few shortcomings, which you should bear in mind before applying.
  • No check writing. Deposit checks into this account, but you can’t write checks.
  • Limited footprint. First National Bank only has branches and ATMs in these eight locations: Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, DC and West Virginia. But eligibility is open to residents in any of the 14 states it serves.
  • Only 800+ ATMs. Compared to most other banks that have 50,000 or more in-network ATM locations, you only get over 800 ATMS with First National Bank.

First National Bank’s ATM network and fees

First National Bank has over 800 ATMs scattered across Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. But you’ll pay a $2.95 fee when you use an out-of-network ATM.
