There are currently 7.9 million U-SSilica shares held short by investors – that's known as U-SSilica's "short interest". This figure is 6.1% up from 7.4 million last month.
There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting U-SSilica shares can be evaluated.
U-SSilica's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of U-SSilica shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of U-SSilica shares traded daily (recently around 1.5 million). In this case U-SSilica's short interest could be expressed as 0.11% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 U-SSilica shares in existence, roughly 110 shares are currently held short) or 0.1563% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable U-SSilica shares, roughly 156 shares are currently held short).
A SIR below 10% would generally be considered to indicate a fairly optimistic outlook for the share price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against U-SSilica.
