Shorting PQ Group shares

There are currently 579,500 PQ Group shares held short by investors – that's known as PQ Group's "short interest". This figure is 0.7% up from 575,525 last month.

There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting PQ Group shares can be evaluated.

PQ Group's "short interest ratio" (SIR)

PQ Group's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of PQ Group shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of PQ Group shares traded daily (recently around 201916.37630662). PQ Group's SIR currently stands at 2.87. In other words for every 100,000 PQ Group shares traded daily on the market, roughly 2870 shares are currently held short.

However PQ Group's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of PQ Group shares, or, against the total number of tradable PQ Group shares (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case PQ Group's short interest could be expressed as 0% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 PQ Group shares in existence, roughly 0 shares are currently held short) or 0.015% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable PQ Group shares, roughly 15 shares are currently held short).

Such a low SIR usually points to an optimistic outlook for the share price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against PQ Group.

PQ Group share dividends

2%

Dividend payout ratio: 1.51% of net profits

Recently PQ Group has paid out, on average, around 1.51% of net profits as dividends. That has enabled analysts to estimate a "forward annual dividend yield" of 0% of the current stock value. This means that over a year, based on recent payouts (which are sadly no guarantee of future payouts), PQ Group shareholders could enjoy a 0% return on their shares, in the form of dividend payments. In PQ Group's case, that would currently equate to about $N/A per share.

While PQ Group's payout ratio might seem low, this can signify that PQ Group is investing more in its future growth.

PQ Group's most recent dividend payout was on 28 December 2020. The latest dividend was paid out to all shareholders who bought their shares by 17 December 2020 (the "ex-dividend date").

PQG.US volatility(beta: 0.9)Avg. volatility(beta: 1.00)LowHigh

Beta is a measure of a share's volatility in relation to the market. The market (NYSE average) beta is 1, while PQ Group's is 0.8972. This would suggest that PQ Group's shares are less volatile than average (for this exchange).
