Shorting Phoenix Tree shares

There are currently 185,002 Phoenix Tree shares held short by investors – that's known as Phoenix Tree's "short interest". This figure is 5.8% down from 196,369 last month.

There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting Phoenix Tree shares can be evaluated.

Phoenix Tree's "short interest ratio" (SIR)

Phoenix Tree's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of Phoenix Tree shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of Phoenix Tree shares traded daily (recently around 440480.95238095). Phoenix Tree's SIR currently stands at 0.42. In other words for every 100,000 Phoenix Tree shares traded daily on the market, roughly 420 shares are currently held short.

However Phoenix Tree's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of Phoenix Tree shares, or, against the total number of tradable Phoenix Tree shares (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case Phoenix Tree's short interest could be expressed as 0% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 Phoenix Tree shares in existence, roughly 0 shares are currently held short) or 0% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable Phoenix Tree shares, roughly 0 shares are currently held short).

Such a low SIR usually points to an optimistic outlook for the share price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against Phoenix Tree.
