There are currently 391,046 Coda Octopus Group shares held short by investors – that's known as Coda Octopus Group's "short interest". This figure is 2.4% down from 400,543 last month.
There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting Coda Octopus Group shares can be evaluated.
Coda Octopus Group's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of Coda Octopus Group shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of Coda Octopus Group shares traded daily (recently around 22117.986425339). Coda Octopus Group's SIR currently stands at 17.68. In other words for every 100,000 Coda Octopus Group shares traded daily on the market, roughly 17680 shares are currently held short.
However Coda Octopus Group's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of Coda Octopus Group shares, or, against the total number of tradable Coda Octopus Group shares (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case Coda Octopus Group's short interest could be expressed as 0.04% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 Coda Octopus Group shares in existence, roughly 40 shares are currently held short) or 0.0543% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable Coda Octopus Group shares, roughly 54 shares are currently held short).
A SIR above 10% would generally be considered pretty high, pointing to a potentially pessimistic outlook for the share price and a discouraging interest in betting against Coda Octopus Group.

We're not expecting Coda Octopus Group to pay a dividend over the next 12 months.
Coda Octopus Group's shares were split on a 1:14 basis on 11 January 2017. So if you had owned 14 shares the day before before the split, the next day you'd have owned 1 share. This wouldn't directly have changed the overall worth of your Coda Octopus Group shares – just the quantity. However, indirectly, the new 1300% higher share price could have impacted the market appetite for Coda Octopus Group shares which in turn could have impacted Coda Octopus Group's share price.
Over the last 12 months, Coda Octopus Group's shares have ranged in value from as little as $4.26 up to $8.9. A popular way to gauge a stock's volatility is its "beta".
Beta is a measure of a share's volatility in relation to the market. The market (NASDAQ average) beta is 1, while Coda Octopus Group's is 1.5396. This would suggest that Coda Octopus Group's shares are more volatile than the average for this exchange and represent, relatively-speaking, a higher risk (but potentially also market-beating returns).
