Shorting Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares

There are currently 493,497 Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares held short by investors – that's known as Capstone Green Energy Corporation's "short interest". This figure is 8.1% up from 456,503 last month.

There are a few different ways that this level of interest in shorting Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares can be evaluated.

Capstone Green Energy Corporation's "short interest ratio" (SIR)

Capstone Green Energy Corporation's "short interest ratio" (SIR) is the quantity of Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares currently shorted divided by the average quantity of Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares traded daily (recently around 176248.92857143). Capstone Green Energy Corporation's SIR currently stands at 2.8. In other words for every 100,000 Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares traded daily on the market, roughly 2800 shares are currently held short.

However Capstone Green Energy Corporation's short interest can also be evaluated against the total number of Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares, or, against the total number of tradable Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares (the shares that aren't held by "insiders" or major long-term shareholders – also known as the "float"). In this case Capstone Green Energy Corporation's short interest could be expressed as 0.03% of the outstanding shares (for every 100,000 Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares in existence, roughly 30 shares are currently held short) or 0.0337% of the tradable shares (for every 100,000 tradable Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares, roughly 34 shares are currently held short).

Such a low SIR usually points to an optimistic outlook for the share price, with fewer people currently willing to bet against Capstone Green Energy Corporation.

However, indirectly, the new 900% higher share price could have impacted the market appetite for Capstone Green Energy Corporation shares which in turn could have impacted Capstone Green Energy Corporation's share price.

Capstone Green Energy Corporation share price volatility

Over the last 12 months, Capstone Green Energy Corporation's shares have ranged in value from as little as $3.8 up to $14.29. A popular way to gauge a stock's volatility is its "beta".

CGRN.US volatility(beta: 2.46)Avg. volatility(beta: 1.00)LowHigh

Beta is a measure of a share's volatility in relation to the market. The market (NASDAQ average) beta is 1, while Capstone Green Energy Corporation's is 2.463.
