Does HSBC Have Zelle? Yes, Here’s How to Use It

This international bank supports Zelle, and it's easy to set up.

Zelle, owned by Early Warning Services, is a money service that’s directly integrated with over 2,000 US banks and credit unions. Right in your banking app, Zelle lets you send and receive instant money transfers between other US deposit accounts. HSBC is a bank, so it can partner with Zelle.

HSBC does work with Zelle

HSBC does work with Zelle. Customers with the HSBC US Mobile Banking app and an HSBC deposit account have access.

7 Great

  • Share Premier status with family.
  • 0% foreign transaction fee.

How to use Zelle with HSBC

Signing up with Zelle doesn’t cost anything. You’ll need a US deposit account from a supported bank, such as a checking or savings account.

You’ll sign up for Zelle within your banking app. Follow these steps to set up Zelle with HSBC:

  • Open your HSBC banking app and log in.
  • Select ‘Move Money’, then select ‘Zelle.’
  • Enter your US email address or mobile phone number to receive a one-time verification code from Zelle.
  • Confirm your enrollment via code.

That’s it! Zelle no longer supports a standalone app, so to use it at all, you must bank with a supported institution.

Is Zelle free with HSBC?

Most banks and credit unions don’t charge extra fees to use Zelle. HSBC doesn’t charge any fees to use Zelle, either.

HSBC’s Zelle limits

HSBC states there are no limits to the amount of money you can recieve with Zelle, but it does have some sending limits. You can send up to $500 per day, or up to $3,000 per month (rolling period). You’re also limited in how many Zelle transactions you can make, up to four per day, or 30 per month (also rolling period).

These limits are pretty standard, and its also following Zelle’s standard transfer limit of $500 per day.

Alternatives to Zelle

If you want the ability to send instant transfers to friends and family, but you’re not an HSBC customer, consider these other apps:

  • Cash App. One of the most popular peer-to-peer apps out there, Cash App lets you link external accounts to send instant transfers to added friends. The app has a debit card, savings, investing and more.
  • Venmo. Similar to Cash App, Venmo lets you link external bank accounts to send instant transfers to friends and family. Venmo also has more of a social aspect compared to Cash App, letting you see a feed of friends’ transfers if public.
  • Chime. With a Chime® Checking Account, you can use the feature called Pay Anyone, which lets you send cash to anyone with a valid debit card with no fees.

Bottom line

HSBC does work with Zelle, but if it’s not the right bank for you, compare other banks that support Zelle if you’re set on using the service.
