M&S credit card points

Earn loyalty points that translate into M&S vouchers with any of M&S credit cards.

Overview

A loyalty programme for the true M&S addicted, M&S Loyalty Scheme has a decent earn rate, but only allows you to redeem points for more M&S vouchers.

If you thrive at the idea of losing yourself in an endless spiral of M&S shopping, it could be right for you.

How to earn M&S credit card points

You earn M&S credit card points every time you shop with your M&S credit card. M&S doesn’t offer a huge range of credit card options, but it does cover three main credit card types – rewards, balance transfer and 0% purchases.

When you use your credit card to shop at M&S, you earn points at a comparatively good rate – 1 point for every £1 you spend. If you choose the Reward Plus credit card, for the first year your M&S shopping points will be doubled.

Like with most credit card loyalty schemes, the earn rate decreases for all other purchases – 1 point for every £5 you spend. So for example you’ll earn 100 points every time you spend £100 at M&S, every time you spend £500 anywhere else, or any possible combination of the 2.

M&S Sparks points vs credit card points

Unlike with other retailers, M&S credit card points and M&S regular loyalty points (part of the Sparks scheme) aren’t the same thing and don’t work together – which can be a bit of a hassle, especially because it means you’ll have to swipe both cards at the till if you want to make the best out of it.

However, if you do that you can earn Sparks and card points at the same time, and earn more prizes.

How to redeem M&S credit card points

As we said, M&S credit card points can only be redeemed for more M&S vouchers. 100 credit card points are worth £1.

The good news is, four times a year M&S posts you the vouchers you’ve earned, so you don’t actually need to do anything.

However, if you do want to check your balance, you can use M&S online banking to do it.

Vouchers last 15 months, so you can choose whether to spend them immediately and get a nice discount on your groceries, or save them for a bigger purchase.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Good earn rate.
  • Automatic points redemption every three months.
  • Vouchers are valid 15 months.
  • 55 days interest-free credit.
  • Additional cardholders can be added.
  • Preferential rates on M&S Travel Money.

Cons

  • Reduced earn rate on non-M&S purchases.
  • Points can only be redeemed for M&S vouchers.
  • Works separately from M&S’ standard loyalty card, so you need to carry both.
