Yieldstreet is best for accredited investors

Yieldstreet is best for accredited investors with high net worth, mainly because most of the offerings come with high minimum investment requirements and are only available to accredited investors.

As a Yieldstreet investment will need to be held for at least six months, it might also appeal to buy-and-hold investors rather than active traders.

Where Yieldstreet shines

Yieldstreet makes it possible to invest in art, real estate and commercial offerings. Its Prism Fund is available to non-accredited investors with minimums as low as $2,500. It also offers retirement and entity accounts and there’s a mobile app allowing you to invest on the go.

Where Yieldstreet falls short

Much of Yieldstreet’s offerings are highly illiquid and limited to accredited investors except for its Prism Fund. The minimum to invest varies for each offering but are typically high, beginning at $5,000. And you’ll only be able to view some of the offerings only after you become a member.

Yieldstreet is facing litigation

In 2022, investors filed a class-action lawsuit over the loss of over $100 million. The lawsuit filed focuses on supposedly false and misleading statements Yieldstreet made to investors to induce them to purchase certain Yieldstreet investment products, including vessel deconstruction funds, oil & gas wells, commercial real estate, and modern art. Yieldstreet has said the investors were not defrauded and no fraud was committed. The outcome of this case is still pending.

Yieldstreet’s fees

The main fee that Yieldstreet charges is the annual management fund of an invested asset. This will vary depending on the investment you choose. For example, short-term notes have zero management fees, while individual investment fees start at 1% and the Prism Fund fees at 1.5%.

Is Yieldstreet legit?

Yes, Yieldstreet is a registered investment advisor with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Its banking services are provided by Evolve Bank & Trust, a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
