Is PNC a Good Bank? (2026)

A large national bank with many typical products, but is the best option out there?

PNC Bank has been around since 1804, and is a well-known and trusted bank in the industry. But what about PNC’s security, reputation, affordability and general trustworthiness? Does all of that add up to being a good bank?

Is PNC Bank a trustworthy and good bank?

Yes, PNC is what we’d consider a good bank. Its reputation isn’t one that’s full of scandals or a long list of fines from regulators. It has all the basic banking products and services you’d expect, and its security measures are standard.

It’s a well-known bank that’s earned itself in the top ten largest banks in the United States, holding over $560 billion in consolidated assets. This is impressive, considering PNC doesn’t operate in all 50 states. PNC offers products and services in 27 states, including the District of Columbia.

It also made a name for itself among modern accounts with its release of the PNC Virtual Wallet account — was one of the first hybrid bank accounts that has checking and savings bundled into one.

PNC also has a decent amount of everyday banking perks we like. Some features worth mentioning include:

  • Zelle support
  • Optional banking alerts, such as low-balance and activity
  • Auto Savings to set up automatic and recurring transfers
  • Around 2,300 branches across the country
  • Around 55,000 partner and PNC ATMs

Hot tip: State availability may be limited

PNC doesn’t offer its services or products in every state. It operates in 27 states, with around 2,300 branches across those states. Some products and services may also require you to go to a branch, such as applying for a kids’ bank account.

PNC popular banking products

PNC Bank has a lot of banking products, but the flagship product line is the PNC Virtual Wallet accounts.

  • PNC Virtual Wallet. The most well-known product from PNC, the PNC Virtual Wallet account has three subaccounts; one for spending, and two for saving. PNC has four tier options for the account with varying monthly fees and APYs, called Virtual Wallet, Performance Spend, Performance Select, and Student.
  • PNC Simple Checking. This account has no monthly fees with direct deposit, or for ages under 25 or over 62. There’s also no opening deposit requirement or overdraft fees.
  • Multiple savings accounts. There is the PNC high-yield savings account with up to 3.15% APY, then the Standard Savings account with an APY around 0.01% to 0.03%, and then the kids’ savings account called ‘S’ Is For Savings with a low 0.01% APY. Rates may vary by zip location.

Other PNC products and services

Aside from checking and savings, PNC is a full service bank with many other products and services, which include:

PNC Bank security measures

Alongside the typical FDIC deposit insurance, PNC employs these security measures:

  • Transport layer security (TLS) to encrypt data while online banking
  • Multi-factor authentication for online banking
  • Encryption for card transactions
  • Optional account activity alerts, such as low balance and suspicious activity
  • Zero-liability protection with debit and credit cards

PNC customer ratings and reviews

Google Play Score4.4 out of 5 stars, based on 315,000 customer reviews
Customer reviews verified as of30 September 2026

PNC gets pretty rough reviews, but that’s to be expected with a large, national bank. It does hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but isn’t accredited.

On the whole, reviews mention poor customer service at branches, long hold times over the phone, issues with payment delays, slow deposit times or just problems with transfers between checking and savings.

Bottom line

PNC is a large and trusted bank, without much of a history of scandals. It has a ton of checking and savings accounts to choose from, including its flagship Virtual Account lines, kids’ savings, money market accounts, CDs and investing services. For a full-service bank, it’s solid.

However, its savings rates aren’t the best and we don’t love the monthly fees on its Virtual Wallet account (though they can be waived). Compare more bank account options if PNC isn’t quite the right fit.
