A few years ago, a Graphcore IPO seemed like a strong possibility... but then it was bought by SoftBank Group. Around 2020/2021 Graphcore had raised more than $700m from prominent investors and had an estimated valuation approaching $3b. It had positioned itself as a European AI hardware challenger to NVIDIA. By the time SoftBank acquired Graphcore in 2024, an IPO had started looking a lot less likely, as the company hadn't raised fresh capital for several years, its losses had widened and it had exited China – all factors making fundraising more difficult.
So now, as a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank, an IPO any time soon is pretty unlikely (but not entirely off the cards... after all, Arm Holdings was also owned by SoftBank before going public in a high-profile 2023 IPO). You do have the option of investing in SoftBank, as that's publicly-traded. Note that the movement of SoftBank's stock price will be influenced by more than just the success (or failure) of Bristol-based Graphcore.
SoftBank's primary listing is on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the ticker 9984. UK trading apps are generally better as supporting US-traded stocks, and SoftBank's also listed under ticker SFTBY on the US OTC market.
The whole process can take as little as 15 minutes. You'll need a smartphone or computer, an internet connection, your passport or driving licence and a means of payment.

Valuing a stock is incredibly difficult, and any metric has to be viewed as part of a bigger picture of overall performance. However, analysts commonly use some key metrics to help gauge value. Check out the Graphcore (SoftBank) P/E ratio, PEG ratio and EBITDA.
Graphcore (SoftBank)'s current share price divided by its per-share earnings (EPS) over a 12-month period gives a "trailing price/earnings ratio" of roughly 8x. In other words, Graphcore (SoftBank)'s shares trade at around 8x recent earnings.
However, Graphcore (SoftBank)'s P/E ratio is best considered in relation to those of others within the industry or those of similar companies.
Graphcore (SoftBank)'s "price/earnings-to-growth ratio" can be calculated by dividing its P/E ratio by its growth – to give 1258.0093. Higher PEG ratios such as this can be interpreted as meaning the shares offer worse value given the current rate of growth.
The PEG ratio provides a broader view than just the P/E ratio, as it gives more insight into Graphcore (SoftBank)'s future profitability. By accounting for growth, it could also help you if you're comparing the share prices of multiple high-growth companies.
However, it's sensible to consider Graphcore (SoftBank)'s PEG ratio in relation to those of similar companies.
Graphcore (SoftBank)'s EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) is a whopping $528.1 billion (£397.4 billion).
The EBITDA is a measure of Graphcore (SoftBank)'s overall financial performance and is widely used to measure a its profitability.
To put that into context you can compare it against similar companies.
