Landlord insurance could protect you if something goes wrong with your rental property. It’s not mandatory to have this type of cover but it could offer you peace of mind that you won’t be out of pocket if the unexpected happens.

The landlord insurance offered from Direct Line for Business is available with public liability cover up to £2 million and access to a 24/7 legal helpline. You’ll need to enhance a standard policy with accidental damage or rent guarantee cover but there are other extras to choose from.

Its building cover and contents cover can be bought separately as well as combined under one policy. Landlords with up to 15 properties in their portfolio can benefit from up to 10% discount on their premium. What’s more, the landlord insurance comes 5*-Defaqto-rated and is also price guaranteed, meaning that Direct Line for Business will beat the renewal price or new quote of another insurer for first-time customers. What is covered under my policy?

Direct Line for Business’s landlord buildings insurance includes a range of features. Some of these features include:

  • Damage caused by escape of water.
  • Boiler cover.
  • Cover to rehouse tenants if the property is unfit due to an insured incident.
  • Public liability cover up to £2 million.
  • Alternative accommodation.
  • Glass replacement following breakage.
  • Lock replacement up to £1,500 per claim.

What is my excess?

How much is this going to cost me?

There are a number of factors that can affect the cost of your Direct Line for Business landlord insurance premium, including:

What is the claims process for Direct Line for Business?

You will need to call Direct Line for Business on 0345 303 1753 to make a claim on your landlord insurance. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm. Alternatively, you can make a claim online by visiting the Direct Line for Business website and completing the online form.

Direct Line for Business recommends that you have the following information to hand when making a claim:

  • Your policy details and personal contact details.
  • The address of the property listed under the policy.
  • A description of what has happened, including when and where the incident took place.
  • A list of damaged items with their original cost.
  • A crime reference number, if applicable.
  • Any relevant documents or photographic evidence to support your claim.
  • Details about your tenant(s).

It’s vital that you let your insurer know about an incident as soon as possible. Failure to do this could result in a rejected claim later on.
