Our verdict: Is a policy with Lemonade worth it?

Lemonade puts everything at your fingertips. As a fully digital service, you can custom-create your insurance policy using its app, choosing from a range of add-ons that make sense for your needs. And when it comes time to file a claim, this is all handled within the app as well, with straightforward claims being paid out in minutes.

It has a fresh take on pricing as well, charging a flat fee and donating anything left over after paying claims and expenses to charities chosen by customers. If you like to handle everything through your smartphone, Lemonade offers convenience and flexibility, but if you prefer the human touch, then you may want to look at other providers.

What is Lemonade?

Lemonade is a fully digital insurance provider that has a range of home insurance options. Designed for renters and homeowners, you can get contents insurance, building insurance, or both for comprehensive cover.

How does Lemonade work?

To get cover, you’ll need to download the Lemonade app. You can then put in your details, including your insurance history and what you need cover for.

There’s no paperwork, as everything is 100% digital. An AI bot will put your insurance cover together, and you can get insured in seconds.

Similarly, to file a claim, you’ll need to input what happened into the app. Lemonade’s AI then runs its anti-fraud algorithms. If your claim is instantly approved, you’ll receive payment in seconds. For more complex claims, your details will be passed on to Lemonade’s “human” team.

The offers compared on this page are chosen from a range of products we can track; we don't cover every product on the market...yet. Unless we've indicated otherwise, products are shown in no particular order or ranking. The terms "best", "top", "cheap" (and variations), aren't product ratings, although we always explain what's great about a product when we highlight it; this is subject to our terms of use. When making a big financial decision, it's wise to consider getting independent financial advice, and always consider your own financial circumstances when comparing products so you get what's right for you.
