If, like most SMEs, your business has a fairly irregular cash flow, then a business card can boost your spending power and offer some stability. Plus if it's anything like this one, it can earn you a bunch of tasty rewards along the way!

Before diving into the rewards, it's worth appreciating that this is quite a unique credit product. Like any credit or charge card, if you pay your balance off in full each month, you won't incur interest. But the Amex Business Gold comes with a "Flexible Payment Option" which is a part of your credit limit that you're allowed to carry over if you want – but crucially it will incur interest.

The primary benefits of this card include travel accident insurance up to £250,000 (subject to enrolment and provided you use your Gold Business Card to book your travel tickets) and the opportunity to earn Membership Rewards points as you spend (you'll also enjoy that hefty bonus on sign-up).

The option of additional cards enables you to extend benefits to colleagues and employees and easily keep track of business expenses. What's more, unlike some of its competitors, American Express won't charge you extra for additional cards.

Pros

  • Welcome bonus offer
  • Points on eligible spend
  • No annual fee in year 1

Cons

  • £195 annual fee applies after year 1
  • Applicants with low credit scores are unlikely to be eligible
  • 2.99% non-sterling transaction fee

Can I get additional American Express® Business Gold Cards for my team?

Yes, you can request up to 20 more. There's no fee for additional cards. Plus, with additional cards, you could be able to earn points at a faster rate.

What is the spending limit?
