Our verdict

Admiral has a range of policies including black box, classic car and learner driver policies.

The company’s comprehensive policy offers a good level of cover, with benefits including courtesy car and windscreen repair. Its rating based on customer feedback in our 2021 survey shows that customers think highly of the service.

The downside is that the claims line isn’t open 24/7, though there is an emergency third-party recovery service available outside office hours.

If you’ve decided that Admiral car insurance isn’t for you, you can also compare other car insurance policies to find a better fit.

Best for: Multi-car

Pros
  • Admiral’s comprehensive policies include the use of a courtesy car if yours is being repaired at an Admiral-approved garage.
  • European cover for up to 90 days.
Cons
  • There isn’t that much information about Admiral’s third party only or third party, fire and theft policies on its website.
  • Claims helplines are not open 24/7. Calling outside of the opening hours will mean you’ll be redirected to a contracted third-party recovery service.

Admiral offers 3 levels of car insurance cover and 6 different types of policy. The company is particularly known for its multi-car policies, and our insurance experts picked Admiral as the best provider in this category, based on their analysis. Admiral’s multi-car policy allows you to have just one renewal date, aligning each time a new car is brought onto the policy. Each car that’s on the policy for more than 3 months also gets a full year of no-claims bonus added. And if you need to make a claim, the no-claims for other cars on the policy won’t be affected. Our review covers MultiCar – including how much you could save – and Admiral’s other options.

How do I make a claim?

On Admiral’s site, go to the “Contact us” page, where you can choose from a wide range of options (including information on how to make a claim).

If you’d like to speak to someone in the customer services team, call 0333 220 2000. The opening hours are:

Monday to Friday: 8am–7pm
Saturday: 9am–5pm

What is my excess?

When you make a claim, you have to pay an amount of money towards it – that is called an excess.

The exact amount varies according to a few personal factors, like the type of car that’s covered and the age of both the car and the driver.
