Founded in 2013, EXMO is a cryptocurrency exchange that allows users to trade a range of cryptocurrencies. You can deposit funds into your account using a number of transfer methods, and the platform offers support for five fiat currencies.

In December 2017, EXMO also announced the launch of the EXMO Coin crowdsale to raise the funds necessary to add a margin loan service to its exchange platform.

Available countries

EXMO’s exchange platform can be used by people in more than 200 countries around the world, including the UK.

Which payment methods are accepted?

EXMO accepts deposits in the following fiat currencies:

  • US dollars (USD)
  • Euros (EUR)
  • Ukrainian hryvnias (UAH)
  • Russian rubles (RUB)

Is it safe to use EXMO?

While you don’t have to verify your account in order to start trading on EXMO, you can provide proof of ID and proof of your address to add increased security to your account and access a wider range of deposit and withdrawal options. EXMO also offers the option of setting up two-factor authentication and to create a list of trusted IP addresses that can log into your account.

Like pretty much every crypto exchange, EXMO has been targeted by hackers in the past. For example, a DDoS attack in December 2017 briefly shut down the exchange.

Whilst crypto trading isn’t regulated in the UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) maintains a register of crypto firms that have passed AML and counter-terrorism checks. Exmo, despite having an entity in the UK, is not on the FCA’s register.

It’s also worth pointing out that EXMO director Pavel Lerner was kidnapped outside his office in Kiev, Ukraine, late in December 2017. He was later released after paying a US$1 million ransom in Bitcoin.
