Our verdict
A platform that lets you plant trees as you spend.
Treecard used to feature a debit card that plants trees as you spend cash on your everyday purchases. Today, Treecard is primarily focusing on its other products, including "walk-to-plant" and "spend-to-plant" initiatives, as well as its tech and plant stores.
Best for: Spenders who care about reducing their ecological footprint and want their purchases to contribute to tree planting.

Treecard debit card discontinued — but still an eco-conscious platform
Treecard’s debit card program closed down on October 9, 2023.
The company partnered with Ecosia, a nonprofit search engine, to make this happen. For every $60 you spent with your wooden Treecard debit card, one tree was planted. The company also earmarked 80% of its profits to fund reforestation projects managed by Ecosia.
While it no longer offers physical debit cards, Treecard is still a platform focused on reforestation and eco-friendly spending.
Who is Treecard best for?
Treecard is best for eco-conscious people who want to make a positive environmental impact through their spending habits. Although it has discontinued the debit card program, the app continues to allow users to earn rewards and plant real trees by walking or linking bank accounts.
So, if you enjoy using digital tools to track your financial and fitness habits as well as support reforestation efforts, Treecard may be for you.
What we like about Treecard
Treecard has evolved into an app-based platform that turns your everyday actions (like walking and spending) into real-world environmental impact.
The “Spend” feature
When you purchase public transit tickets or shop at an associated eco-brand, Treecard’s Spend feature allows you to earn reward points simply by linking your bank account or card. Once you’ve enabled Spend, you also have the option to participate in “Round Up” and “Chip In.”
With Round Up, you can round up each purchase you made on your connected bank account to the nearest dollar. And every $1 rounded up plants a tree.
If you opt into Chip In, you can choose to pay anywhere from $1 to $20 per month to support Treecard’s tree-planting, plastic cleanup and wildlife protection efforts.
Meaningful rewards
Treecard offers more than just discounts on things like dog food and meal kits. You can also earn impactful rewards, like funding plastic removal from the ocean or gifting trees to friends and family.
The “Walk to Plant” feature
With the “Walk to Plant” feature, you can plant up to three real trees a week just by adding more walking to your daily routine. To get started, all you have to do is connect your Health app and allow Treecard to access and update your health data.
Worldwide impact
Treecard partners with Instituto Espinhaço and Eden Reforestation Projects to plant trees all over the world (in 32 countries) to help fight deforestation and reverse the effects of climate change.
Where it falls short
The biggest letdown with Treecard is that its debit card program is no longer available. If you’re hoping to switch to a more eco-friendly banking alternative, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
Today, Treecard functions more like a rewards and impact app, rather than a tool for managing your money or paying bills. Also, you’ll need to link your regular bank account to earn points through spending, which some people may be uncomfortable with.
