Villarreal vs Man United match preview
Villarreal and the Red Devils will clash for the fifth time. Remarkably all four of their previous matches have ended in scoreless draws. They all came in the Champions League between 2005 and 2009. Will this game go to extra-time or even a nail-biting penalty shootout?
Villarreal finished seventh in La Liga after losing to Real Madrid last weekend. However, they have an astute coach in Unai Emery who knows what it takes to win the Europa League, having triumphed three times in a row with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016. Emery also reached the final two years ago with Arsenal, but lost to Chelsea.
If Villarreal defeat United, Spain will boast 7 of the last 10 Europa League champions, the others belonging to Chelsea in 2013 and 2019, plus the Red Devils in 2017.
Villarreal will thrive on their underdog status and certainly have the capabilities to punch above their weight, especially with Gerard Moreno in their side. The prolific striker has bagged 23 goals in La Liga this season, a tally bettered only by superstar Lionel Messi.
We believe the Red Devils will be too strong in Gdańsk, so we’re tipping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win his first trophy as United manager.
