How safe is the Smart Fortwo?

The 2017 Smart Fortwo received a 4-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The side crash test received five stars, the highest possible rating, from the NHTSA. The government organization also awarded a four star safety rating for the frontal crash test and the rollover crash test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety only rated the moderate overlap front crash test and the side impact crash test, both of which received the highest possible safety rating.

The Smart Fortwo model includes a proximity warning system, rear parking assistance and crosswind assistance.
