Barclays joint accounts

Make paying shared bills easier with a joint account from Barclays.

The majority of Barclays’ current accounts can be set up as a joint account, and you can add Blue Rewards to benefit from perks like cashback and an Apple TV+ subscription.

Our verdict: Is a joint account with Barclays worth it?

If you’re looking for a joint bank account that can be held by more than 2 people, it’s certainly worth considering Barclays. You’ll have the choice of an everyday account or one that also offers rewards.

However, as its account range isn’t as vast as some of its competitors, you might want to explore what else is on offer, particularly if only 2 of you are opening an account together.

Pros and cons of Barclays joint accounts

Pros

  • Joint bank accounts are available for more than 2 people
  • Range of options to choose from
  • Joint savings accounts are also available
  • FSCS protection

Cons

  • Limited range of joint accounts compared to its competitors
  • You may have to pay a monthly fee

Does Barclays offer a joint account?

Yes, Barclays offers joint bank accounts. Unlike many other banks, Barclays doesn’t limit joint accounts to 2 people. Although it doesn’t set a specific restriction on the number of parties that can hold a joint account, Barclays recommends no more than 4 people share an account.

All joint account holders will receive a debit card for everyday spending and you’ll be able to set up direct debits and standing orders on the account to pay bills and other expenses.

As Barclays has a UK banking licence, your funds are protected up to £120,000 per person under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

Which accounts are joint?

Barclays doesn’t have a big variety when it comes to which accounts can be joint accounts. There are the 2 accounts that can be shared:

  • Barclays Bank Account
  • Premier Current Account

You also have the option to add Blue Rewards to your Barclays Bank Account, which comes with a monthly fee but you receive extra benefits such as cashback and an Apple TV+ subscription.

If you meet the qualifying criteria, there’s also a premier account which gives you access to exclusive savings and mortgage rates, and premier banking support.

It’s also possible to open joint savings accounts with Barclays to help you put money away for shared savings goals.

How do I get a joint account with Barclays?

You can open a joint account with Barclays online, as long as you have the relevant details to hand for all account holders. This includes your addresses for the past three years, income and employment details.

Alternatively, you can apply in branch, and will need to bring along proof of ID. You will also need to do this if you want to add someone to an existing Barclays account.
