What is UK Credit Ratings?

UK Credit Ratings is a British credit report provider that aims to help customers understand and improve their credit rating. It offers a paid monthly subscription service that lets you access your TransUnion credit report and credit score. It also provides practical advice on the actions you can take to boost your credit profile.

How does a UK Credit Ratings credit report work?

The credit report offered by UK Credit Ratings records the last six years of your financial and credit activity and uses this data to calculate your credit score, which is a numerical rating of your creditworthiness. This credit report and score is provided by TransUnion, one of the UK’s major credit reference agencies.

UK Credit Ratings will then also send you alerts when your credit report updates, as well as tips on how you can improve your credit score.

How do I get a UK Credit Ratings credit report?

You can apply for a UK Credit Ratings membership through the UK Credit Ratings website. You’ll need to provide certain personal information when you apply, including:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Your address
  • Your date of birth

Is UK Credit Ratings any good?

UK Credit Ratings claims to offer practical and actionable advice on how you can improve your credit rating and profile, which may make it useful for those who have been rejected for a credit product or who require more than just access to their credit report.

Reviews on the ratings platform Trustpilot are mixed – around 15% are 1 star, with many users complaining that they did not realise they would be charged after a free trial, or they found it difficult to cancel. There were positive reviews as well, and overall the company has a good rating, based on more than 1,200 reviews (last updated: February 2022).

How much does UK Credit Ratings cost?

The UK Credit Ratings credit report membership costs £19.95 per month, but you can also get a 14-day free trial. After your trial period ends, you’ll be charged your first monthly subscription fee, but you’re free to cancel at any time before your trial ends.

Our verdict

With the plethora of free credit report services now available in the UK, it may be hard to justify UK Credit Ratings’ rather steep monthly fee, especially when your TransUnion credit report and credit score are available for free elsewhere.

However, if you’re looking for more than just your straightforward credit report or in desperate need of help when it comes to improving your credit score, UK Credit Ratings’ actionable advice service may come in handy.

How do I improve my credit score?

If your credit report or credit score is lower than you’d like it to be, there are a couple of things you can do to help improve it, including:

  • Paying your bills on time
  • Closing any unused credit accounts, such as old credit cards or bank accounts
  • Registering on the electoral roll and making sure your address is up to date
  • Regularly checking your credit report for any errors
