Allied Irish Bank (GB) Visa Gold Card review
- Minimum credit limit
- £5,000
Our verdict
Existing customers willing to clear their balance in full every month could boost their spending power with this rewarding charge card.AIB's Visa Gold Card is a charge card. That means you're expected to clear your balance in full every month. As such, these cards don't really charge interest, although there are fees to pay if you fail to clear your balance on time.
Provided you're OK with that, plus the card's £75 per annum fee, then this card could offer you payment flexibility (in other words you can buy something at the start of the month and pay for it at the end of the month) and the opportunity to enjoy a few attractive perks.
For frequent travellers, as a Visa Gold cardholder you'll enjoy access to over 600 executive airport lounges, through the Priority Pass scheme.
All in all, this is an okay card, but for that annual fee, it could do with some more perks. Other "gold" cards, designed for consumers that can qualify for high credit limits, offer a wider range of rewards.
AIB cards are offered on the Visa network, so they're accepted at over 20 million locations worldwide.
Pros
- Airport lounge access
Cons
- £75 annual account fee
- Applicants with low credit scores are unlikely to be eligible
- Each additional card incurs a fee (£35)
- Only available to existing customers
