Our verdict

Easy application, fast funding and flexible approval criteria — even for poor or fair credit.

Credit Direct is a BBB-accredited personal loan provider that receives high praise from its past customers. It looks at income and employment history when making loan decisions and welcomes poor and fair credit borrowers. The application is simple, and funds are typically received within a day or two. Is Credit Direct legit?

Yes, Credit Direct is a legitimate company. It was founded in 2013 and has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2016. It receives high marks from past customers with more than four stars on both the BBB and Trustpilot websites.

According to its privacy policy, Credit Direct protects customer data with 2048-bit SSL encryption (TLS 1.2) for online submissions, stores information on secure servers and limits access to authorized employees only. However, like many financial services companies, Credit Direct has the right to sell, rent or share your information (though few customers complain about unsolicited marketing calls from third parties, so the company may not currently engage in this practice).

What makes Credit Direct shine?

There’s a lot to like about Credit Direct. For starters, the company considers income and employment history when making loan decisions, so even borrowers with poor or fair credit are encouraged to apply. The application process is easy, and you can find out what offers you qualify for in a few minutes with a soft credit check. And if you need help qualifying, it offers joint personal loans.

Plus, it doesn’t charge any origination fees and customers report it offers a 15-day grace period on late payments, which can be a big help if you find yourself a little short on cash as your payment due date approaches.

Where Credit Direct falls short

The biggest shortfall with Credit Direct is that it’s only available in 14 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas. Information about its loan products can also be hard to find, you’ll need to dig around the company website if you want to find out about minimum credit score requirements, APRs, etc.

Plus, it has a low maximum loan amount, so if you need to borrow more than $40,000, you’ll need to find personal loan lenders offering larger loans. And while APRs start at a competitive 6.99%, they can reach up to 29.99%.

How to qualify for Credit Direct

Credit Direct doesn’t have a minimum credit score requirement, so qualifying is fairly simple. Here is the criteria you need to meet:

  • Be at least 18 years old (or the age of consent in your state)
  • Have a government-issued ID
  • Reside in a state where Credit Direct is authorized to operate
  • Show proof you can repay the loan

And if you don’t qualify on your own, you can apply for a loan with a co-borrower to help your chances of approval.

How to apply

Applying for a loan through Credit Direct is a simple process that takes only a few minutes. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Fill out an online application. Provide the amount you want to borrow, the loan’s purpose, your estimated credit score range, name, date of birth, contact information, etc.
  2. Find out what you qualify for. Get details on the offers you qualify for, including the loan amount, interest rate and repayment term. This step only requires a soft credit check that won’t harm your credit score.
  3. Choose your loan offer and complete the application. Select the loan offer that works best for you, then complete a full application and provide supporting documentation, including:
    • Bank statements
    • Pay stubs
    • Most recent W2
    • Government-issued ID

You’ll also need to consent to a hard credit check as part of the full application process.

  4. Sign the loan agreement. Receive your loan agreement, sign it and send it back. Expect to receive your funds in 24 to 72 hours.
