NBKC Bank (formerly National Bank of Kansas City) is small but mighty. Notorious for its solid customer service and business products, the bank currently has an asset size of just over $1 billion. NBKC offers one standard business checking account but has the added bonus of offering business money market accounts and CDs. If you have more sophisticated needs, NBKC also offers commercial lending services and fintech business solutions.
NKBC business account offerings
NBKC offers a business checking account, a business money market account and business CDs. You can open a checking account and money market account with no initial deposit, but you need a minimum deposit of $1000 to open a CD.
NBKC offers FDIC Insurance through the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), meaning you are insured up to $250,000 for all of their deposit products.
To open an NBKC business account, you will need standard business documents such as your Articles of Incorporation/Organization, IRS EIN Award Letter, your government-issued ID and some personal information. Depending on the type of business or entity, you may be required to provide other documents such as a partnership agreement or Fictitious Name/Assumed Name certificates.
NBKC Bank Business Account
Marketed on the website as “a business checking account that takes care of business,” there are no fees with the NBKC business account.
There are no fees for overdrafts, stop payments, returned items, domestic wires, check deposits and so on. There is also no minimum deposit or minimum balance requirements.
It offers mobile check deposit and a business debit card. NBKC participates in the Allpoint ATM network, giving you access to over 90,000+ ATMs nationwide with no fees. NBKC will also refund up to $12 per month in out-of-network ATM fees.
NBKC’s business account integrates with various accounting and bookkeeping software, simplifying the management of your business assets. It also integrates with Autobooks via the NBKC mobile app and an automation platform called Ramp.
NBKC Business Money Market account
Perhaps a standout product is NBKC’s Business Money Market. Currently paying an impressive 2.75% APY, this account also has no minimum opening deposit or minimum balance to earn that high rate.
There are no monthly maintenance fees, deposit tiers or relationship benefits to obtain the rate, making it a sweet place to park your business savings.
NBKC Business CDs
NBKC offers business CDs ranging from seven months to five years in terms, all requiring a $1,000 opening deposit.
Currently, their best rates are paying 4.05% APY for shorter 7-month and 11-month terms. However, its one to five-year regular terms range from 2.5% APY to 3.25% APY.
What we like about NBKC business offerings
There’s a lot to like about NBKC bank’s business account, including no monthly fees, no minimum balance requirements, free transactions and a vast ATM network. Other standout perks include ATM fee reimbursement (up to $12 per month) and low-cost domestic wire transfers.
NBKC has strong digital products, including its online and mobile banking platform, which offer the convenience of mobile check deposit and bill pay. Also included are strong security features and multifactor authentication that help keep your money safe. The money market account and CDs pay competitive APYs as well.
NBKC stacks up quite well with major competitors, being similar to banks Bluevine and Novo on the fee-free and unlimited transaction front. But NBKC is the champion of low-cost wire fees and ATM Fee reimbursements, with only Novo reimbursing all ATM fees.
Where it falls short
NBKC is a predominantly online bank, meaning a major drawback is the limited in-branch support. The bank is Kansas City-based, so physical brick-and-mortar branches are limited to that area. This is a downfall, especially compared to the business banking giant Chase.
Another area of weakness is NBKC’s limited third-party integrations compared to competitors like Bluevine and Novo. International wire transfers are also expensive with NBKC, priced at $45 a transfer, so it may not be the most cost-effective option for international businesses.
NBKC bank also doesn’t earn interest on balances in the regular business account (just the Money Market), and customer support hours are limited to business hours, which could be challenging for some business owners.
Even considering the drawbacks, NBKC is still one of our picks for best business checking accounts.

To provide a Score, Finder’s banking experts analyze hundreds of checking accounts against what we consider is the best option: no monthly fees, no overdraft fees, a large ATM network of 50,000 or more, additional features outside of typical banking services, and the optional perk of earning interest. Accounts that are nearly free to maintain and use are scored the highest, while accounts with costly fees and few features are scored the lowest.
