How a vehicle from Kia affects insurance costs

Kias are affordable vehicles, which makes insurance more affordable as well. These cars are not costly to repair or replace, which helps to bring down the cost of insurance. Newer Kia models also do well in safety tests, another factor insurance companies consider when determining the cost of your insurance premium.

However, some Kias are targeted by thieves, which can increase the cost of insurance.

Kia roadside assistance

New Kias built in 2014 or newer get free roadside assistance for up to 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Kia roadside assistance service includes:

  • Towing to the nearest Kia dealership
  • Battery jump start
  • Flat tire change
  • Gas delivery if you run out of fuel, limited to 2 times per year and up to 2 gallons of gas
  • Lockout if you lost your key
  • Trip interruption up to $300 for food, hotel and alternate transportation for overnight trips over 150 miles away from home

To use Kia roadside assistance, call Kia’s 24/7 roadside hotline at 1-800-333-4542. You’ll need to provide your vehicle’s VIN when you call. There’s a maximum limit of $75 per roadside event.

New Kia drivers can skip adding this coverage to a car insurance policy. Drivers with older Kias that no longer have roadside warranty coverage can add on roadside assistance to your car insurance policy to benefit from roadside help when you need it.

About the Kia brand

Kia was founded in 1944 and opened its first plant one year later. But it wasn’t until the ’80s that the company began exporting cars to the US.

Throughout the years, Kia has won many awards, including Kelley Blue Book’s 5 Great Deals, Autocar’s Car Company of the Year and the Environmental Management Award.

Are there any standout Kia models?

The K900 is Kia’s highest-end car, with a starting price of $49,900. This luxury model Kia has a 3.8L V6 engine and 311 horsepower that produce a smooth overall ride. Kia’s goal with the K900 was to “breathe new life into luxury,” and does so with dynamic bending light, an aerodynamic design, prestige distance (the space between the cabin and front wheel) and a spacious, comfortable interior.

What’s Kia UVO?

UVO is an infotainment and telematics system that provides Kia owners with eServices. Features include navigation, diagnostics, rear-camera display, emergency assistance and parking minder. When you download the UVO app onto your smartphone you can access remote commands like climate control, lock/unlock, vehicle status, find my car and more.

UVO is available for most Kia models beginning in 2014.

Kia car facts

  • Kia is the second largest automotive manufacturer in South Korea and has been around since 1944.
  • In 2015, Kia sold over 3.3 million vehicles.
  • Kia base prices start at $15,000 and can go up to $50,000.

Bottom line

Kias are generally affordable to insure, barring any personal factors, but be sure to shop around to find the best car insurance for you.
