What we like about the Quontic Bank High-Yield Savings

Quontic Bank’s HYSA is a solid pick for a savings account that pays a high APY, placing it among some of the best savings account products out there.

The account pays 3.85% APY, which is currently well over the national average of 0.38%.(1) If you want easy access to your funds, you can transfer to external accounts or request an ATM card to be used at one of 90,000+ ATMs. And another major perk is that there are no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements.

The interest compounds daily and credits monthly, and the account is FDIC insured up to the maximum legal limits ($250,000 per depositor).

Where it falls short

Perhaps the biggest downside to Quontic Bank is that it is a digital bank, which means if you prefer a brick-and-mortar style in branch banking, you’re out of luck. Quontic does have a few physical loan offices located in New York and Florida, but these branches cannot assist with depository banking needs, unfortunately.

You also need $100 to open the account, meaning you must link an existing account to fund your Quontic savings. Many high-yield savings accounts have opening deposit requirements, but some free accounts don’t require the cash up front.

Other miscellaneous fees

The Quontic bank is free of a monthly maintenance fee, but there are some other fees you may need to watch out for. If you often send wire transfers, there is a $35 fee for international outgoing wires and a $25 fee for domestic outgoing wires.

It also charges a $5 a month dormant account fee, which is something to keep your eye on if you intend to fund your new account and let your savings sit with no activity for over a year. If your account goes into dormant status, you will see the $5 a month charge.

Quontic Bank earns an impressive A+ on the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Its high rating is attributed to how quickly it responds to complaints by directly contacting consumers. And even though the customer review rating is low, only 23 complaints were filed against Quontic in the last three years. This number is considerably lower than other online banks.

Most complaints seem to regard having a difficult time reaching customer service and the account-closing process being difficult.

When looking at Trustpilot, Quontic yields a strong rating with over 600 customer reviews. This positive rating is also impressive compared to other financial institutions, as consumers are more likely to leave negative reviews than positive ones. Customers rave about the bank’s deposit products and helpful and patient representatives.
