Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance
Pay your phone bill with an eligible card to get coverage.
Smartphones are fragile and accidents can happen. Repairing or replacing your new phone could cost several hundred dollars or more. But you can avoid the cost of repairs or replacements with Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance.
What is Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance?
Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance is a way to protect your phone against theft or damage without paying extra. If you pay your phone bill with your Wells Fargo personal credit card, you’ll be automatically covered for up to $600 per claim with a $25 deductible. You can make a maximum of two claims of up to $1,200 in a 12-month period.
Note that the Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance is not primary insurance. It functions as secondary insurance, meaning in an unfortunate event, you’ll first get reimbursement from primary insurances, like homeowner insurance or personal insurance, if you have it. Your Wells Fargo insurance comes next.
Does Wells Fargo phone insurance protect against lost phones?
No. You must have proof of your damage or theft to file a claim. If the phone disappeared without explanation, you can’t file a claim. Also, if the phone is refurbished or resold, i.e. it’s not new, it may not be covered under the phone insurance.
How to file a phone insurance claim with your Wells Fargo credit card
- Call Wells Fargo benefits administrator at 866-804-4770 within 60 days of the occurrence
- Provide all necessary documents
- Pay the $25 deductible
- Within 10 business days, expect to get reimbursement for the value of your phone or up to $600, whichever is less
Documents you’ll need to make a claim
To claim the benefits of Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance, provide the following documents:
- Recent phone bill paid with your Wells Fargo credit card
- Copy of the receipt of when you bought your phone
- Police report if your phone was stolen
- Assessment of a qualified phone repair service if your phone was damaged. Alternatively, send your phone to be inspected
Is Wells Fargo credit card phone insurance worth it?
Considering it doesn’t cost anything extra, paying your phone bill with your Wells Fargo credit card to get the insurance could be well worth it. Especially if you own an expensive smartphone.
Keep in mind that you won’t get coverage if you lose your phone. You also won’t get coverage if you’re renting or borrowing the phone, or if you get it in a package with a prepaid plan.
You’ll receive supplemental coverage, meaning you must make a claim with any personal insurance first before receiving any benefits. You’ll need to call your benefit administrator to make a claim. Then, you’ll need to complete a claim form and submit any requested documentation.
So, while it might take a bit of work to submit a claim, it could be worth it for cellular protection.
