reGAIN app review: Recycle and be rewarded

Donate your old clothes to charity and get money-off coupons to redeem at top retailers.

Are you a fashion lover who likes a bargain but wants to do some good at the same time? With the reGAIN app, you donate your unwanted clothes to charity and in exchange get discounts at a number of top UK retailers.

What is the reGAIN app?

If your wardrobe is bulging with unwanted items, the reGAIN app is an easy way to have a clear out, do your bit for charity and help the planet at the same time. The idea behind the app is to create a circular economy where people are incentivised to recycle, rather than throw their clothes in the bin to end up as landfill. As a reward, you’ll receive voucher codes to redeem online at popular stores and lifestyle brands.

How does the reGAIN app work?

Download the app and set up an account with your name and email address. Box or bag up a minimum of 10 unwanted items, label them with a barcode generated through the app, and then either drop them off at your nearest participating British Red Cross charity shop or one of the 20,000 drop-off points across the UK. You can find your nearest charity shop or drop-off point by typing your location or postcode into the app.

Once you’ve donated your items, you’ll receive an alert within 30 minutes that allows you to unlock your discount codes. The discount codes are valid for 10 days and can be used at participating retail stores and lifestyle brands. You redeem your discount at the store checkout, as you would any other voucher code.

Which retailers does the reGAIN app work with?

A number of well-known brands have partnered with reGAIN to offer discount vouchers. These include Superdry, boohoo, PrettyLittleThing, Coast, Karen Millen, Warehouse, Oasis, Missguided, Moss Bros, Charles Tyrwhitt, Mountain Warehouse, New Balance and MADE.COM.

What items can I donate with the reGAIN app?

All types of new, used or defective clothing and footwear can be donated. This includes accessories like bags, hats, gloves and belts, as well as underwear and swimwear. Other items you might normally donate to a charity shop won’t be accepted. This includes things like bedding, towels, books, cosmetics, toys, curtains, household appliances and umbrellas.
You are limited to donating one box or bag of items per week.

Is the reGAIN app free?

Yes, the app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play. The only cost you’ll ever have to pay is shipping, if you send your donated items from a drop-off point rather than a charity shop.

How does shipping work on the reGAIN app?

You can donate your box or bag of clothes for free at a charity shop in your location or post your box from one of the 20,000 drop-off points listed in the app. If you choose to go to a drop-off point you’ll need to cover the cost of the postage.

If sending your parcel with DPD, Royal Mail or InPost, you need to print off the shipping label generated within the app. If you’re sending a parcel with CollectPlus, the store worker will scan the barcode from your phone and there’s no need to print a label. Likewise, if you’re dropping your parcel off at a charity shop, the shop assistant will scan your barcode when you make the donation.

Your parcel must have a minimum of 10 items in it and the maximum weight per parcel is 18kg. The maximum package size is: 61cm x 44cm x 37cm.

What discounts can I get on the reGAIN app?

Discounts vary from retailer to retailer, but you can expect to get 10-30% off using your vouchers. Each participating brand has separate terms and conditions. For example, some will let you use your discount on sale items and others will only let you redeem it on full priced goods. If in doubt, check with the individual retailer before you shop.

What happens to clothes that I donate on the reGAIN app?

All the unwanted items you donate using the reGAIN app are either resold or recycled with 100% of profits from clothing resale going to good causes.
