If you fancy skipping this altogether, certain sites offer health tests which claim to be more convenient and flexible. LetsGetChecked is one of the forerunners in the online health test sector, but is it worth your money?

Frequently asked questions about LetsGetChecked
What is LetsGetChecked?
Launched in the US in 2017, LetsGetChecked is now based in the US and in Ireland. It enables you to order health and wellness testing kits online to be delivered to your home. It offers a range of tests covering sexual health, women's health, men's health, wellness and Covid. It's done over 2.4 million tests so far across Ireland, Canada the US and UK. The company currently has a $1b valuation.
What types of COVID tests can I get from LetsGetChecked?
LetsGetChecked offers a wide range of home health tests. It is not a doctor service and doesn't provide diagnosis before taking any tests.
Sexual health tests
STI tests can be basic as testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea for £79, or as comprehensive as testing for 11 infections (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, HIV, syphilis, gardnerella, mycoplasma, ureaplasma hepatitis B, and herpes simplex virus I and II) for £209. Nurses contact you if an infection is detected and there is no need to hit up a clinic. Prescriptions for chlamydia and trichomoniasis can be provided for free.
Women's health tests
There are tests specifically for women, such as fertility, progesterone, ovarian reserves, female hormone and HPV tests.
Then there are tests available for both women and men, like vitamin tests, organ performance, diabetes and bowel cander screening.
Men's health tests
Specific tests for men include male hormone tests, testosterone and PSA tests. A basic testosterone test is £59, while an advance male hormone test is £139.
For both men and women there is a helpful section with 'the most common health issues in men/women'. There are step by step videos showing you how to take each test LetsGetChecked provides.
Covid health tests
We're not out of the woods with Covid just yet. You can get a Covid home test which requires a gentle lower nasal swab. You then send the test back to the lab, which analyse the sample.
What is LetsGetChecked's refund policy?
For health test kits you can get a refund if you inform LetsGetChecked by email or post and return the kit within 14 days. The downside is that you have to pay for the return postage.
No refunds will be issued once the order has been processed for Covid kits.
What are the LetsGetChecked customer reviews?
On the reviews site Trustpilot, the company has a score of 4.5 out of 5, with over 12,500 reviews to date (last updated February 2022). Customers praised the speed of delivery, ease of use and customer service. Many reviews do come from the US, however.
The main negatives emerging from the LetsGetChecked reviews were delays in the kit arriving and delays in the results coming back, but these complaints were in the minority.
Are LetsGetChecked COVID-19 tests accurate?
LetsGetChecked says its samples are processed by labs that are used by primary care providers, hospitals and government schemes, and sample collection kits are manufactured in a facility accredited to ISO 13485 – a quality standard covering medical devices. LetsGetChecked labs are CPA approved and ISO accredited, which are the highest levels of accreditation.
LetsGetChecked is on the government list of COVID test providers, so meets the minimum standards for tests of its type.
How long does it take to get results from LetsGetChecked?
Tests should be taken on the same day as sending them to its labs for analysis. LetsGetChecked say they aim to get results to you (online) within 2 to 5 days. Pretty convenient, as you don't need to visit a clinic.
Covid tests for travel should be ordered 5 days minimum before your flight. Once the lab has received your test, the company says it will take 24-72 hours for your results to be sent back to you. It provides SMS and email updates every step of the way.
How much do LetsGetChecked COVID-19 tests cost?
The pre-flight test costs £99 (£79.20 with the Finder discount).
There are bulk testing deals available for organisations – drop the company a message via the site to discuss pricing.
