What about refurbished laptops?

A good refurbished laptop will have been examined and restored by a reputable computer manufacturer or retailer. It’ll be in excellent condition, although not new. It’ll have more years on it and as a result will be cheaper than a fresh-out-of-the-box laptop. They’re a good choice if you want to save money and some can be bought using Klarna from certain retailers.

Can I buy gaming laptops using Klarna?

You can. There are many gaming laptops available via buy now, pay later (BNPL) such as Razer Blades, Acer Nitros and Lenovo Legions.

How does Klarna work?

Once you know a store offers Klarna, you can shop on its website as usual and select Klarna as your payment method at checkout.

With Klarna, you can select either “Pay in 30”, which is a great option if you want to try items before you buy, or “Pay in 3”, where you can split the payment of orders into 3 more manageable chunks. For big-ticket items like laptops, you can use Klarna’s financing option, which allows you to pay for your goods in monthly instalments over 6–36 months.

What happens if I make a late payment?

On March 16th 2023, Klarna began charging a fee of up to £5 for all late payments. If you place an order valued at £20 or above, you’ll be charged £5 if you miss your payment. If your order is below £20, your late payment fee will be under £5. The fee is also capped at 25% of your order.

If you do miss your payment, Klarna won’t charge you until after a 7 day grace period and sent you 4 reminders. Until April 27th 2023, you can waive the late repayment fee by completing a financial awareness test, dubbed the ‘Never Forget’ test, in the Klarna app.

It’s important to note that Klarna reports purchases paid on time, late payments and unpaid purchases to both Experian and TransUnion, but at the moment, it does not affect your credit score. To learn more, read our full guide.

Alternative options (Currys finance and Argos finance)

Other well-known electronics retailers offer other ways to pay for laptops.

Currys offers flexible payment options for items over £99. You can spread the cost of a laptop from 12 to 36 months or pay your balance early. However, watch out for the interest rate of 24.9% APR.

Argos also offers BNPL with its Argos Card. You’ll get between 3 and 12 months where you won’t be charged any interest providing you settle the balance before the plan ends. If you don’t pay in full, you’ll be charged interest on any balance remaining at the end of the plan. This interest will be backdated to the date of purchase.

Frequently asked questions

• Are there any downsides to Klarna?

  If you haven’t got a good credit history, you may be declined altogether. Missed payments and unpaid debts will be sent to the debt collection agency. Klarna also informs credit reference agencies when you miss payments, which could negatively affect your credit rating in the future.

• Can I pay for other electrical items using Klarna?

  Of course! However, some retailers will have a limit to the amount you can split up with Klarna.
