Travelling abroad this year means you’ll need to arrange a COVID-19 test when returning to the UK. All tests must be arranged with a private provider; NHS tests are not permitted for travel purposes.

In this review, we cover prices for tests from the private test provider, Flysurance, and share customer reviews of the company, which has garnered some positive feedback.

What is Flysurance?

Flysurance is a private COVID-19 test provider, which markets itself as a “friendly” provider given its customer team stems from the travel industry.

Flysurance is backed by medical staff, listed on the UK government website, registered with Public Health England and the Department of Health and Social Care. Its lab is accredited by UKAS, the government-appointed accreditation body.

Overall, the provider has excellent reviews on Trustpilot, which we’ll go into more detail below.

What types of COVID tests can I get from Flysurance?

Flysurance offers fit to fly antigen and PCR testing, day 2 and day 8 home tests. You’ll have to self swab at home, register your test kit using a QR code when done and post it back to the lab using a pre paid bag included.

Flysurance customer reviews

Flysurance is an excellent company according to Trustpilot’s reviews and customers are posting their comments daily testifying to this. It boasts 4.8 stars with 92% excellent reviews out of 222 overall.

Many complimented its customer service team for responding to queries rapidly, as well as the chat function. Finder communicated with Flysurance using the chat and received prompt responses to various questions. On social media, (Facebook) Flysurance always responded to comments under its posts and has a positive testimony by blogger Gemma Markland on Instagram.

There were a handful of bad reviews on Trustpilot but on balance they should not overshadow the positives.

Are Flysurance tests accurate?

Information on the accuracy of Flysurance tests is not readily available, aside from a few positive reviews on Trustpilot. However, all COVID-19 test providers listed on the UK government website have to have “demonstrated compliance with the applicable minimum standards” and at least be going through the 3-stage accreditation by UKAS, the government-appointed accreditation body.

But remember, no COVID-19 test is 100% accurate, even those that meet official standards for performance and safety.

How long does it take to get results from Flysurance?

According to its website, you can get your fit to fly antigen certificates within an hour if Flysurance receives the results between 8am and 8pm. PCR results are sent to you within 24-36 hours.

What is Flysurance’s returns policy?

Flysurance operates a strict no refund and returns policy with no exceptions. Test kits cannot be returned for health and safety reasons. It also states no responsibility nor refunds for delivery failures or delays caused by its delivery provider. If it has not issued you a certificate within 24 hours of receiving negative antigen proof , then Flysurance offers 10% compensation. This does not apply for any positive or void results.

How much do Flysurance tests cost?

The cheapest test you can get if you’re fully vaccinated is the day 2 lateral flow for £16, which includes a signed doctor’s certificate.

The pre departure rapid antigen tests cost £16 and are suitable for taking before entry into a number of countries (including the UK, if you’re unvaccinated).

Its “Return to the UK” package for unvaccinated travellers costs £164.

Pros and cons of Flysurance

Pros

  • Government-listed COVID-19 test provider
  • Easy to order tests online
  • Quick to receive results
  • Cheap lateral flow tests in comparison to competitors
  • Excellent customer service on various websites

Cons

  • No refunds under any circumstances
  • PCR tests can be found cheaper with other providers

Our verdict: Is Flysurance any good?

Flysurance was named in “The Sun’s Top 10 Travel Brands” in September 2021. Based on positive customer reviews and experiences we believe it deserves that spot. Its website, ordering procedure, delivery, communication and response rate on various online platforms are excellent. Where issues have arisen for customers, Flysurance has taken the time to respond to concerns individually, not using generic responses.

£16 for a lateral flow test is value for money and cheaper than many of Flysurance’s competitors. The price rises for PCR tests and you will be able to find cheaper options elsewhere.
