What is Eurofins?

Eurofins is a laboratory testing company that sells private COVID-19 tests for travel. The company is on the UK government’s list of COVID-19 test providers (general and for day 2 and day 8) and its testing is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which means it’s deemed high quality and meets UK standards.

What types of COVID-19 tests can I get from Eurofins?

All types! You can book your PCR and lateral flow tests to prove you are fit to fly, as well as your PCR for day 2, day 5 (under the Test to Release scheme – only in England), and day 8 tests. You can order tests to take at home, which you then send off for processing, or you can take supervised tests at one of Eurofins’ Sampling Stations located throughout the UK. Eurofins also offers an unsupervised drive-through testing option at its Sampling Stations, which are slightly more expensive but PCR results are processed more quickly. You must pre-book an appointment before you visit a Sampling Station.

Eurofins customer reviews

Out of over 5,000 reviews on Trustpilot, Eurofins scores a “Great” rating of 3.9 out of 5 (as of November 2021). The majority of reviewers praise Eurofins’ quick and efficient service and its value for money, particularly if you go to one of the Sampling Stations to take your tests. Those who had a poor experience with Eurofins mainly complained about the unexpected closure of some Sampling Stations and of poor customer service over the phone and via the online chat service.

Are Eurofins tests accurate?

Eurofins prides itself on its reliability: The website states that tests exceed the UK government’s minimum performance standards and are UKAS accredited. This means you can be pretty confident that your test results will be accurate. Eurofins is indeed listed on the UKAS site as accredited for COVID testing.

But remember, no COVID-19 test is 100% accurate, even those that meet official standards for performance and safety.

How long does it take to get results from Eurofins?

For PCR home test kits, Eurofins aims to provide you with your results within 24 hours of your sample arriving at its testing laboratory. You can deposit your sample at one of Eurofins’ drop boxes located across the UK, or post your test using the supplied Royal Mail Tracked 24 return envelope. Eurofins stresses on its website that it has no control over tests sent by Royal Mail, so it’s up to you to make sure you post your sample in plenty of time if you need the result for travel.

What is Eurofins’ refund policy?

The amount of refund you will be able to claim from Eurofins will depend on the costs the company had already incurred before you cancelled your tests. On the Eurofins website it says that “the cost of administration and of the non-transferable electronic code, which is consumed at the point of order, means that all Eurofins COVID-19 tests carry a £15 fee for cancellations. If a home sampling kit is cancelled after it has left our warehouse a £10 fee will be charged in addition to the administration fee as the sampling kit can no longer be certified as sterile and must be disposed of rather than returned and re-used.”

How much do Eurofins tests cost?

Eurofins tests are reasonably priced when compared to some other COVID-19 test providers. Home delivery day 2 tests for fully vaccinated people cost £54.90, while a package for day 2 and day 8 tests for non-vaccinated people costs £98.90. If you drive to a Eurofins Sampling Station you can expect to pay £44.90 for a day 2 test and £77.90 for the day 2 and 8 test package. You can get a fit to fly rapid antigen test from £19.90 and PCR tests for £44.90.

Pros and cons of Eurofins

Pros

  • Mostly positive customer reviews
  • Quick and efficient service
  • UKAS-accredited COVID-19 test provider

Cons

  • No guarantee of when you’ll receive your results
  • Some customers unhappy with the customer service

Our verdict: Is Eurofins any good?

As far as private COVID-19 testing providers go, we reckon Eurofins is a good choice. The main bonus is the fact that the company is fully accredited by UKAS, which not many testing providers currently are. The price of tests is reasonable too, particularly when compared to some of Eurofins’ competitors.
