I won’t lie to you. Mentally, I’m still in April 2019, but according to my calendar, it’s January 2021. And even though that frightens me to my core, it means one beautiful thing – new year fashion trends.

After deep-diving into the Internet and watching a copious amount of fashion TikToks, we’ve pulled together 21 fashion trends that are going to be a big deal this year. Better yet, we’ve also included a list of retailers where you can shop the trends for under £50 because we are all about bagging a bargain in 2021.

Get around it and get shopping.

Baseball jackets (also known as bomber jackets) are back with a vengeance. They’re the perfect street-style trend to pair with a cute mini, pair of jeans or whatever tickles your fancy.

Two-tone has been a slow up and comer but expect it to be everywhere this year. Whether you’re looking for some shorts, a skirt or a funky pair of jeans, this trend is a must-have.

3. Flannel

It’s lumberjack chic and one of the easiest items to dress up and dress down. You can go for an oversized fit for more of a dress look or check out the thicker styles for winter. Simply raid your dad’s wardrobe for one of these bad boys if you wanna save some coin.

4. Fur-trimmed cardigans and coats

Easily one of the trends I am the most excited about for this year is fur-trimmed cardigans and coats. These give me the biggest Samantha from Sex and the City vibes, and who wouldn’t want a bit of that?

5. White knee-high boots

White boots had a bit of a moment back in winter 2018, but they’re back for 2021 and bigger and better than ever. Why? Because we’re talking knee-high white boots.

6. Bandannas and silk scarves

The rise of silk scarves began towards the end of 2020, but rest assured, this trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Wear them as a hair accessory, necktie or even a shirt. There are a bunch of tutorials on TikTok on how to style these if you need a little inspiration.

7. Knitted vests

A trend that’s a little different to what we’ve seen recently is knitted vests. A subtle nod to UK fashion, these pieces are the perfect way to jazz up a streetwear look through layering with an oversized shirt, a pleated skirt or some mom jeans.

8. Royal blue

Never did I think I’d be getting around royal blue in my wardrobe, but I stand corrected. This is easily one of the biggest shades for 2021, and you can expect to see it as both a fashion and a beauty trend this year.

9. Zebra print

Over the year, we’ve seen leopard print and tiger stripes have their moment, but mark my words – 2021 is the year of the zebra print!

Being a black and white print, this will also make it super easy to style with already existing items in your wardrobe.

10. Statement pants

2021 is the year to go big or go home. After being cooped up for the majority of 2020, it’s time to get outside and make a statement, and big bold print pants are the go-to way to do so this year. Whether it’s leather, gingham, tie-dye or floral – they’re all winners!

11. Headbands

A trend from 2020 that we will see continue into 2021 is hair bands. This 2000 OG accessory has been a hot item over the last few months, and it’s not going anywhere. In fact, expect to see more fun colours and prints.

12. Patchwork

A bit of a quirky trend that we haven’t seen in a while is patchwork clothes. This trend will see a bunch of fabrics, colours and patterns thrown together, but we predict it will be fairly prominent across denim and knitwear items.

After binge-watching the entirety of Bridgerton on Netflix, this is easily one of my favourite trends for this year. It simply adds some spice to your outfit and who could say no to that?

Towards the end of the year, the term “oversized outfits” literally tripled in searches on Pinterest. So if that tells us anything, it means that whatever you’re buying this year, you might want to size up.

Another 2000s’ trend rising to the spotlight this year is pleated skirts. You can thank TikTok again for this one as you can see basically every fashion influencer working this into their wardrobe.

19. Lilac

A secondary shade for the season is going to be lilac. 2020 had a big moment for pastels but mainly focused on greens and pinks. 2021 is the year for pastel, whether it’s accessories, bikinis, clothing and even shoes.

Think flip-flops but make them chic. Flip-flop sandals and heels are about to have a big moment this year, and I’m 100% about to get around it.

21. Gold bracelets

Statement jewellery isn’t a new trend; however, it’s often been shown through big chunky hoops, necklaces and rings. Well, get ready to add gold bracelets to that list as this is the jewellery trend for the year. You can stack them or go for a big chunky chain style. Whatever floats your boat!
