Our verdict

These installment loans are larger than some of the competition, but rates are high and it’s not transparent about loan terms.

Xact offers installment loans ranging from $500 to $5,000, with loan terms up to 18 months. It’s easy to apply, and you can receive funding as soon as the next business day. It also accepts borrowers with poor credit, and a history of on-time payments can help you raise your credit score. But rates are well into triple digits, it’s not transparent about loan terms and it has a number of negative reviews.

Best for: Borrowers with poor credit who need an emergency loan and can afford to pay it back early.

Is Xact legit?

Xact is a “real” lender, as a result of a partnership between CCBank, Member FDIC, based in Provo, Utah, and Axcess Financial, Cincinnati, Ohio. But its D rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the volume and nature of complaints may make you think twice before taking out a loan.

Also, Axcess Financial — doing business as Xact — was involved in a California class action lawsuit in 2023 that alleged it charged interest rates exceeding the maximum rate allowed by California state laws. The lawsuit further claimed that Axcess was operating a “rent-a-bank” scheme by using CCBank to get around the state’s usury laws.

Where Xact falls short

With rates as high as 225%, there’s not a lot to like about the cost of Xact loans. If you can’t pay the loan off early, you could be paying three to four times as much as you borrowed. Other installment loans have more affordable rates, even if your credit is poor. If you have decent credit, there are short-term loan options with competitive rates and more flexible loan terms.

The company also isn’t transparent about its rates and terms. It takes some digging to find out how expensive it is to borrow and how long you have to pay it back. And it has quite a few poor reviews, such as problems logging in and updating banking information, which can lead to costly late fees. Customers also said it can be hard to get a prompt answer from customer service when problems crop up.

What makes Xact shine?

Xact stands out for offering larger loan amounts than many other installment loan lenders. But if you can’t pay it back quickly, the interest charges can easily lead to a cycle of debt.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation and only need to borrow around $1,000 or less, you could try a cash advance app instead. Apps don’t charge interest or late fees, and there’s no credit check, but you typically have to repay it on your next payday. For larger loans, you may want to consider a personal loan, although you’ll need good credit to get the best rates.

Xact reviews and complaints

BBB accredited No
BBB rating D
BBB customer reviews 1.04 out of 5 stars, based on 27 customer reviews
Trustpilot Score 4.5 out of 5 stars, based on 3,800 customer reviews
Customer reviews verified as of 27 May 2025

There were no positive reviews on the BBB, although one reviewer admitted the loan was easy to get. Negative comments included complaints about the rates, which require you to repay up to three to four times what you borrowed. Others also report poor customer service, inaccurate credit reporting, delays in receiving the loan proceeds and being unable to log in. Several customers describe the lender as predatory or possibly even a scam.

Xact had more positive feedback on Trustpilot, with customers praising the easy application process, fast approval and the ability to refinance. But others said the loan funds weren’t available as soon as promised, the company wasn’t up front about rates and many had trouble logging in. Some returning customers also expressed frustration that rates didn’t get any lower, even though they had successfully repaid loans in the past.

What do people on Reddit say?

A Redditor who regretted taking out a loan with Xact — but felt they had no other choice at the time — asked others for suggestions on how to handle it. The advice was to get a side hustle, work overtime or get a second job to pay it off as soon as possible.

Frequently asked questions

What credit score do you need for an Xact loan?

Xact doesn’t list a minimum credit score requirement. But it’s meant for borrowers with poor credit, which typically means it accepts low credit scores.

Does Xact do a hard credit check?

The company says it may, “at their discretion,” verify your information from one or more national credit bureaus.

Can an Xact loan hurt my credit?

Yes. If it conducts a hard credit check when you apply, that can cause your score to drop a few points temporarily. It can also improve your score by recording a history of on-time payments or lower your score if you make late payments or default on the loan.
