Our verdict

Earn a high APY without having to meet minimum opening deposits or pay monthly fees.

Pibank is based in Miami and is the direct banking solution of Intercredit Bank. It currently offers one of the highest-yield savings account rates nationally —4.6% APY, around 11 times the average national savings rate. Plus, there are zero monthly fees or minimum balance requirements. And based on Pibank’s schedule of fees, the financial institution doesn’t have any additional service charges, like stop payment orders or dormant account fees. That said, Pibank Savings does not support payments through Bill Pay or Zelle, so if those features are important to you, you may want to look elsewhere.

Best for: Those who prefer online banks with competitive rates on savings accounts.

  • No minimum account balance requirements
  • $0 minimum opening deposit
  • $0 monthly fees

What we like about Pibank Savings

What we like about Pibank Savings is that it’s a pretty no-frills account. You don’t have to worry about monthly fees, minimum opening deposit, balance requirements or confusing APY tier structures.

Plus, your deposits are FDIC insured up to $250,000, so your hard-earned cash will be protected in the unlikely event that the bank goes out of business.

High APY

With a 4.6% APY, Pibank offers one of the most competitive rates in the country. You can start earning interest with as little as $0.01, and there’s no balance cap to receive the full advertised rate. There’s also a simple calculator on Pibank’s website that helps you figure out how much interest you could earn based on how much you plan to deposit into the account.

Where it falls short

One downside to consider before signing up for a savings account at Pibank is that it doesn’t have any physical branch locations. Pibank operates entirely through its online and mobile banking platforms, which means you won’t be able to visit a Pibank branch in person. If you’re not comfortable with digital banking, you may want to look elsewhere.

Another thing to note is that Pibank’s customer support is only available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. If you need help outside of those hours, you may be out of luck.

And while Pibank doesn’t charge fees for wire transfers, your own bank might. So, if you plan to move money in and out of your savings account via wire transfer, check with your bank to see if it tacks on any fees.

What is the Finder Score?

The Finder Score crunches over 250 savings accounts from hundreds of financial institutions. It takes into account the product's interest rate, fees, opening deposit and features - this gives you a simple score out of 10.

To provide a Score, Finder’s banking experts analyze hundreds of savings accounts against FDIC-reported national averages as a baseline. Accounts with rates well over the national average are scored the highest, while accounts with rates well below are scored low.

Pibank, which is a brand of Intercredit Bank, hasn’t received an individual rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) yet. However, the BBB did give Intercredit Bank a great rating, which means the BBB believes the bank responds to complaints and issues promptly. Intercredit Bank only has one review on BBB’s website, where the customer complained about the bank’s discriminatory application approval process. That said, a single review isn’t enough to draw firm conclusions.

What do people on Reddit say?

Neither Intercredit nor Pibank has a Trustpilot page. But based on customer discussions on Reddit, most seem quite happy with the high APYs the bank offers. However, we did come across a few complaints. One Reddit user shared their frustration with withdrawing funds, saying: “I’m still trying to get my funds out of their system. They require a video chat and ask you to show your driver’s license [on] your camera screen, and they make you flick it to make sure it’s plastic.”

Again, this is just one person’s experience, so take it with a grain of salt.
