Our verdict
Trade 7 cryptocurrencies with the beginner-friendly Public, but its trade fees are on the high end.
Public is decent option for beginner cryptocurrency investors because of its user-friendly app and trading experience, but it’s got a few major downsides worth considering. Its supported coins include popular cryptos like BTC, ETH and DOGE, ideal for beginners just getting started, but only seven coins in total are available to trade.
Recurring crypto orders let you automate your investing schedule with ease, but trade fees are high compared to other platforms. A crypto order of $10 will incur a $0.49 fee. That’s a trade fee of 4.9%. While Public charges less the larger the order amount, beginners placing smaller orders will be subject to the highest fees. Recurring crypto orders are charged a 1.25% trade fee no matter the order amount.
If you’re a Public customer and want to supplement your portfolio with major cryptos without opening an account elsewhere, Public lets you trade crypto. But if you plan to invest frequently with small amounts or are an experienced crypto investor, other, better options exist.
Pros
- Trade with multiple fiat currencies. Public allows you to trade with USD.
- Deposit and withdraw USD directly to your bank account in the US. With Public you can deposit cash from your American bank account and cash out back into the same account.
- Supports a range of payment methods. Public supports several popular payment methods including USD deposits via and Bank transfer.
- Customer support available via live chat. Public is contactable through live text chat customer support.
Cons
- Only 13 cryptocurrencies supported. Public supports a smaller variety of assets than some of its competitors. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you're looking for a large range of altcoins you may want to compare other platforms.
